Default Help needed re: battery losing its charge

I found the fuse related to the battery going dead in a period of 2-3 days but I'm clueless as to how to proceed from here. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The battery stays charged if I remove the #22 30 amp fuse. The chart identifies it as the left electric seat but it also controls the footwell light above the fuse panel.

The seat control works when the fuse is in as does the footwell light.

What should I do next to fix the problem?

Thanks in advance.

First, I'm wondering why a 30 A for either of those items??? Certainly not a footwell light. You have an open or some draw on that circuit.

I would go to 928gt.com and try to figure out the fuse, but you don't put any info (MY) in your sig line.

Maybe it controls other functions as well; I don't know. The fuse chart shows that it should be a 30 amp fuse.

An open....what? A draw, yes I would guess so since the battery goes dead. Could it be a stuck relay...suggestions?

Measure the current drain across that fuse with the door light set to off. Sounds like there is something else draining. It could be a stick seat switch...Try rocking them and see if anything changes.

My 87 S4 did this in a little more time until I found one or both of the lites on the lower part of the inside door panel staying lit from being kicked to the on position.

This is a neat toy for finding drains etc.

Fuse buddy, pull the fuse and stick it in the probe socket, stick the probe into the socket the fuse was in. HF has a version for about $13, Amazon about $20.

danglerb, can you give more detail on the HF version? I did a search on their site and came up with nothing. Thanks

Edit: Found it

Wouldn't you be able to hear the seat motor running?

All of the interior lights and the red lights on the end of the doors go out after a few seconds per the timer. Not that it's probably important but the light that fuse # 22 controls (in addition to the left electric seat) is the one behind the glove box immediately above the fuse panel.

That says for 20 amps; could I plug it in to the 30 amp socket that I'm working with or would it damage the fuse buddy?

There are many with more electrical knowledge than me, but I think you would be ok. The fuse blows at 30 amps so unless something is terribly wrong (in which case your battery would be dead in a very short time) the draw will only be a few amps. If I recall, the car should be drawing only .5 amps or less when at rest.

If its rated for 20amps do not plug it into the 30amp circuit..............you could blow the buddy, short out the CE or cause a fire.

Fuse 25 is for the interior light rated 7.5amp............check that.

Fuse 22 is for electric seat left rated 30amp.........unplug the seat, replace the fuse does it blow? if not, plug it back in.........blow?

If it doesn't blow with the seat disconnected is there something under the seat causing a short? Nothing evident I'd remove the seat and inspect as well as test the seat motors.

Battery draw with all systems off should be <15milli amps.
