You're a funny man Sean.... but then the truth is pretty funny....
I'm not above what you wrote but in this case, I'm not allowed to exert any strain due to my eye stuff, which by the way is looking better every day, so part of the reason I'm trying to figure out how do this without jacking the car and lifting the wheels off. I'm also not supposed to bend down or over for a couple more weeks.
James - thanks for the pics. I have the exact same ones you show (painted) so no holes.
Chuck - Thanks for the tip. Are these center caps threaded? Is that why you can spin them off? I'll go try in a few minutes.
Thanks all - Dan

Center caps are NOT threaded, they essentially clip into place the way they are made.
(Some fit tighter than others)
My 79 were all loose and needed a couple dabs of silicone to keep them from rotating.
3 of the 4 on the GTS never move. One rotates on ocassion and I just rotate back to where it needs to be.

I have the caps that James shows in the upper picture, the one with the mini hood crest attached. They have a cup on the back that just fits into the wheel. The edges of the cup are bent out slightly at three places to hold the cap on. Mine have been adjusted some so they don't turn or come off from the outside. It takes a firm push from the rear now to get them to budge at all.
Prying on the front will give you that little chip in the finish that's prominent in James' picture. It's a race to see what chips first, wheel or the cap. Dan, it's probably worth waiting for the eye to heal, then just remove/clean/align/install. If it's really bugging you, there are undoubtedly a few listers in your neighborhood who could take care of this for you.

I tried like the dickens to see if I could twist the center caps with my palm. They are snug, snug, snug. No movement.
I'll just wait awhile till I can lift the car. It really bugs me though as I'm trying to get the car as perfect as possible for Third Coast. I've done a few minor things that improve the car generally and having these center caps ****-eyed (funny term considering the state of my eye) bothers my good eye.
Thanks for the tips.

Dr. Bob, I see that little chip in the pic (never even noticed it live and in person...not sure I have been close enough to it)...I bet that is what happened...someone along the way probably tried to pry them out! Was not me, I have never tried that myself.
