As usual with the long holiday break from work, I've been able to get some solid time on the car assembly. I was initially working on the center console conversion kit, but ran out of parts after I welded some incorrectly! Hope to have a first sample kit out to field trial late this week. In the meantime, been focusing on getting the front area back together, especially the wiring connections. I'm aiming to get all the electrical connected, then try powering up the systems to see where any problems pop up. Also will allow me to park the headlight motor, then adjust the headlight mechanism stops. Still need to bleed the hydraulic headlight adjuster system, and wondering how to do that. I'm thinking I'll just pull the hoses out and make sure the ends are sloped upwards to let them self bleed over a few days, then add more oil to top up?
I used butyl rubber on a roll to seal the fenders to the body, but left the paper in place for this assembly - this will ease the disassembly for paint later on. Got both fenders on now, and getting the nose cleaned inside, ready to install.

AHH if your gonna be painting the car a different color atleast sand down the edges and spot them in with the new color ,
the doors were easy to do with the fenders removed.
The Blue color looks stunning

Thanks Stan. The car will be disassembled again for painting all the jambs and sills - fenders off, doors stripped, rear windows out. The Tahoe Blue I have done is just in the areas not easily masked off during a real paint job. I'll have to fill in the old federalization light holes, so all part of the plan!

With the January thaw here, it has been good to get some time on the car assembly, especially the work underneath where it is usually very cold to lay on the concrete floor, now not so bad! So, got the differential oil in, and cleaned and mounted the handbrake handle. Still need to adjust the brake shoes, then final adjust the handle. Moved to the engine bay and connected the oil pressure sender wires, tidied up the alternator wires, then mounted the pulleys for the alt and the PS pump. Installed the belts for these, tensioned, and ready for fluid. All bolts tightened, and marked as tight.
Got the front bumper cover out a few days ago to look it over, and found 2 of the M5 studs were broken off when I removed it, so took out the steel reinforcing strips and replaced the 2 broken studs. Now I have to say, when reinstalling the curved side strips it is a major PITA! If you have to do this, make sure you do it before the cover is painted as the front paint will definitely get scratched with all the fighting and wrangling to get all 4 studs back in the proper holes! And make sure to clean the rest of the stud threads to prevent siezing up a nut during reassembly. Got all but the 2 inner-most nuts in place - those are very hard to reach, so I gave up for the night to cool off.
Things are coming together! And still working toward connecting the battery and powering up systems to see what problems I have.

Call me crazy but...I think the factory bolted the fenders to the fount bumper BEFORE it goes on the car. Thats the only way I see getting ALL the nuts on the studs in front of the head lights. I will try it that way next time for sure and see how it goes.
Looking GREAT Al...that car will be a show stopper.

^^^ THAT may be a Great idea! I might experiment with that during stripdown for paint. Thanks Dean - I hope it gets to your level of detail eventually!

Al...you have surpassed my feeble attempt long ago. That motor looks like you just unwrapped it from Porsche. It will be one of the nicest on here soon.
My "idea" I think will work but will require at least 2 people and a third would be handy to help manage the bumper around the parking lights. Let us know how it goes.

Al, just caught up on the entire thread...I don't think I can say "hate" and mean it, but I think I officially hate you...GREAT WORK!! By the way, those fuel lines work amazing...finally got them in after having other issues and having the car on jack stands for the majority of your project, can't wait to see it finished!

Hi All! Been a long time since I was online here, but hopefully start checking in more often. Zero progress on the 928 front since buying a house in Feb and completely renovating (mostly doing the work ourselves). Still need to get the garage spruced up so the 928 can be moved into it's new home, but it's on my mind more often now. She looks pretty sad currently - the mildew on all the leather interior parts has come back with a vengence, so that will be my first challenge when work restarts on the car. I apologize to everyone who is interested in the 2X DIN flush mount kit - it has been totally off my radar for many months.
