Looks like it's just a bent bolt. How the hell do you bend that bolt without more damage? PO maybe used the bolt for something else (as a tool) then installed? The gear seems to run true in the vid.

Is the woodruf key in position on the cam nose or is it missing?
Just checking as I do not see it in any of the pictures.

the key was present, bolt says kamax 10 9 wondering if that is factory used brand. Im glad I decided to run it with covers off to see whats going on. also i noticed roller on water pump has a noisy bearing and belt seems to hit it and spin it intermittantly which i found strange.

I would remove the front cam housing and see if the cam is broken thats the usual way the bolt gets bent, if the bolts not straight then neither is the cam.

OK so what did you find out damaged cam??? or just a bent bolt

Wow, just saw this.
My guess is the cam is on it's way to breaking. It would have if it had kept running.

Sean he has been chasing a rough running condition for the last 4 months and has rebuilt lots of parts and nothing has changed except for the new parts steadily accumulating under the hood. My guess is a broken cam on the driverside,
the picture i posted is from another car that came in with the cam snapped off due to damaged pulleys

There is a long history of the driver side 16V cams breaking just forward of the distuributor. You may find that it is broken. You may find it was broken and somebody tried to patch it back together with a braze or with JB weld. I have seen all three.

Roger may have hit on something the left cam has 2 keyways the front one and the rear one for the distributor drive gear.
Please remove the cam gear and the housing behind it and i9nspect to see if both of the keyways are in fact installed..
Here is another scenario I just thought,..
Maybe the cam has already been replaced and the old bent bolt was reused and the inner woodruff key was left out and the distributor drive gear is grinding the cam pulley via the oil seal bushing

FWIW the tension on the older cars with the smaller tensioners is 4.0 .
That should equate to the lower edge of the Kempf tool.
The smaller tensioners dont offer as much give or detensioning thus the lower tension is required for engine growth,
Note over tensioning will quickly wear out the pulleys and damage the oil pump shaft clearance, and also bend the pivot bolt and snap off the left cam in extreme cases

What we have here is a bent bolt.
Consider the mundane and not the dramatic. When were the injectors cleaned or replaced and are the plug wires all go to the right places?

the only way that you can bend that bolt is to have a snapped cam its 10.9
