I need count on the number of teeth on an 86 and how many tooth gaps are used for the pickup. I posted before but never had an answer!

So what are you counting ?

Camshaft gear or flywheel sensor teeth?

I'm pretty sure its 60-2. I'll verify and let you know

Edit: From 928 Motorsports website "The 85/86 US and 84/86 Euro use a 100 tooth timing gear, and the 87-95 use a 60 tooth gear"

For the gaps, isn't it the pair of gaps that let the computer know where it is on the timing ring? I don't think it would work with any other combo.

I believe this is for a project, not a stock car.

Mark, I just checked Mike Simards website www.simardracing.com and he supplies his lightweight aluminum flywheel with a 60-2 timing ring.

From a thread in 2006:

The only issue you will run into with mounting the 60-2 wheel on the front pully of the 928 is that the pulley on the front of the car doesnt have a locating pin so it can move around if the bolt comes loose.
However you can take the flywheel off with the timing ring on it and the timing ring just pops off and you can then install a custom ring with x # of teeth on it

Interesting - From WKD 493 .421, the Service Information Technik booklet for the '87:

"Fifty eight teeth and one large tooth gap for the ignition system are machined in the
outside diameter of the flywheel ."

hmm. Maybe the spacing is such that it's considered a 60 tooth wheel, but the gaps are there so there are technically only 58 actual teeth?

count them for 180 degrees and see what comes up, (not on the gap side)

As stated previously 100-1.
The 2 slightly wider teeth should not be an issue, but I never did use that ring with an aftermarket system.

Looking to add a mega Squirt and need a timing gear that I can count the teeth.
So I need to know how many teeth and how many teeth are vacant to know TDC. 86-I believe is 100 but do not know the missing tooth count.

Stated above 100-1 means 100 teeth with 1 tooth missing.

The S4 is 60-2 so 60 teeth with 2 missing
