Most all of us were on cold slicks. unfortunately, i didnt change to the smaller 275s up front, and 305s on the rear, instead, I was on 305s/335s with no grooves left. The problem I guess for mark was, how much power he has and modulatiing his throttle with a aftermarket TB set up. mine was pretty smooth, but Ive also raced at laguna in the wet a few times too. The critical thing about racing at laguna in the rain, is only applying power on the straights, and getting a feel for grip everywhere else. Sears, quite a different story, the miatas and 4x4 subies, had their way with me. too many curves. t-hill ? kind of in between.
we were joking about putting numbers on his truck. However, we still ran 1:53s in the semil wet, which no truck will be able to do in the dry.
However, on the caution laps, following the rescue trucks in the pouring rain, i felt like i was driving "flat out" to keep up.

I can imagine the handful Andersons 928 was.....think COLD racing slicks, in the RAIN...so its that great combo of about zero traction....... Its gotta be frustrating getting passed on the straights since you can't give it any gas without endless (minus the smoke of course)
I know how scary driving Sears in the rain was on tiny street tires....I can't imagine 1/2 the traction (maybe less) and 3 times the HP!!!

The funny part of racing in the rain, is how little gas you use. I went out prepared for a 50min race, and poured in 3/4 tank. I came in with just under a half a tank. did the same thing on Sunday, and had 3 gals left before the light came on, during the drive home. (only the first 5 laps were really wet)

actually, both mark and I could have found a TON of tires to groove while we were there. the question would be, would it be worth the 60 bucks in tire change costs. Plus, all the labor to groove the slicks? when we started, rains didnt have that much of an advantage. when it got wet, they had a little advantage, when it was pouring, it was a big advantage, but that was for only 4 laps, and there was carnage anyway.
I guess if you are serous, you groove up some used slicks. there were boatloads of really nice 18" slicks ranging from 245 to 310s. all in really good shape. (all the pirelli cup guys) i grabbed a nice set of slicks. Might use them next year!

The Global Motorsports Grand Prix race.
This is the race that started out in the rain and then ended up in the dry.
I beat Anderson in the rain and he beat me in the dry, so now we are tied for driver points in the series. ha ha ha.
