Default How Fast?

I had my '79 5 speed out for a run today, and at an opportune occasion managed to wring its neck for a good distance. It accelerated very nicely up to 5700 rpm in 5th gear, what speed is that ? my speedo was around in the 230 to 240 area but I'm not sure I trust it. I know there is a graph in the rear of the owners handbook that gives speed / revs/ gear but. I havn't got it here.

Can someone help me out here.

Thanks, Cheers Roy

Roy, page 74 of the 78 owners manual has a chart showing speed/rpm for all gears. By my reckoning its 244kph at 5700rpm.

Owners manuals linked here (thanks to Andrew Olson for compiling them, and contributors for scanning):

Thanks Hilton

I think there is more in it, I just need a lot of road to find it, we were covering ground quite quickly at that speed ! Acceleration was quite vivid till just over 5000 rpm in top and then tapered of to 5700, with a few more kilometers I'm sure it would creep beyond 6000 rpm.

I had an interesting moment overtaking a slower car on the way home, as I pulled out to pass, the back end lost traction and stepped out, at 120 kph in 4th gear. the road was a little damp and I think the line markings were quite slippery and as the rear tyres crossed them they made a break for freedom!

Cheers roy

your tires will start to hydroplane about 60 to 75 KPH
be careful on damp or wet roads

So stay above those speeds, right?

I dunno, the speed limit around most turns here is 45, so the general rule is x2+5.
