Looks nice. I'll bet the driver's seat is worn on the outside bolster. Look for dash cracks and in the top of the pod. All that aside, $7650 is a lot for the car. If it truly is in great condition and there are no problems, then maybe to someone who wants it.

Funny how the ad says 59000 but the ODO shows 95000. Wait. Kilometers! That's 59000 miles.

Posted my luke warm opinion in more detail in the Pelican thread, but it just dawned on me, OH, and Euro, this is "likely" a slipped over the boarder and never federalized Euro, so in some states could have serious registration issues.

Dash appears to be leather, and its pulling up around the vents, but I didn't notice any cracks. Lots of wear on the seat for the indicated mileage.

AutoCheck shows 12 records if 7 spaces are put before the vin 9289100748, but my AutoCheck is long lapsed so no telling if the records have any useful information.

IMHO you would have to REALLY want something this specific car has to pay anything close to the asking price. With a dealer likely zero documentation.

The 928 is fundamentally different + far more complex from electrical and mechanical perspectives than the other cars you've posted about. The learning curve will start over, and its steep.

You may end-up with more car for the money, but less market flexibility to flip it, too.

Main reason is probably degree of difficulty to make/keep them right.

'79 is no big deal... Go '78 or go '80+ The later cars got rid of some of the vacuum operated things (like door locks) that are nothing but trouble. I'd suffer with those for a Kermit like '78 but not for a '79 that wasn't close to perfect but still cheap.

Thanks for the input guys. A 928 is one on my "always wanted to own" list, and I like the early style. Definitely a new learning curve, but a 928 auto would really fit my lifestyle right now, as most of my driving is either a) in traffic (no fun with a stick) or b) long drives to Indy or Michigan. I understand a 928 is perfect for that kind of thing. :)

I have no reference for pricing (this price seems similar to asking prices for cars on CL), so wanted to see what you guys thought of that.

Also curious about Euro cars here in the states.

I forgot that earlier 928s were CIS...when did that change to true EFI?

Anywho...thanks again. If I get the time, I may take a look at it. But it sounds like more warnings than reasons to buy on this one.

'78's & '79's are essentially the same car.
'80-'84 are the least desirable, IMHO (unless it's a Euro S)

Personally, I think that paying a couple of grand extra for a car that has the color combo you really like and is in decent shape is money well spent. And that car has a killer color combo!

But I do tend to live the "you only live once" mentality. Sometimes it works...sometimes it bites you in the butt. (..right around the wallet area!)

I should have wrote that in a couple of years you won't care what you paid, if you are still happy with the car.

I paid a very fair price for my car years ago. And again for a euro-S donor car. I don't regret it yet- everyone won IMO- and it's been 10+ years now. Of course I had a cash surplus at the time.

It's just that, you never know when your time is up. I say live now.

I was just saying the other day I want to find a 78-79 green automatic. Not this shade though. More like the Kermit green.

I hear ya, I just recently tried to buy a 964 "on a budget". After three months of driving from shop to shop and doubling my "budget", I dumped it out of intense frustration. I'm fine with putting money into Porsches...I know they require it...it's just the last one really burned my arse. Having that experience fresh in my mind, it's hard to carpe diem!

US 84 automatic is I think one of the best choices, "if you like an automatic". Automatics are all just pretend sports cars, so the low HP of the early car is no real issue, and the 1984 model year I think hits a sweet spot in terms of reliability and improvements. Its 16v non interference, has the 4 spd AT which is rock solid, the speaker grille interior, and its still "not a 32v" so they are usually very cheap even in nicer condition. Downside is you may need to do some hunting, as nicer early cars are rarely sold.

928's are GT's, not sports cars :p
