Difference in AC compressor '90 vs '84

Is belt style the only difference between AC compressors for '80-89 and '90-on ?

Looks like they can be swapped, so long as the clutch assembly with appropriate belt style is maintained.

Thank you.

Hose connections are completely different between a 6E171 ('80-'89) and a 10PA20C. ('90+)

Crap. Thanks Rob.

Do you know if the clutch assembly can be swapped though? The '90's clutch is toast and I'm trying to avoid having to buy a complete $300 replacement.

I don't know the answer to that. I did go looking at one point for just a clutch on the 10PA20C and got as far as this web page. Search for CL 1611, click the picture and compare the measurements to the dead one you have. I have NOT actually bought one of these so I don't know if it's right.

Is the clutch itself burnt out, or just the bearing? The bearing can be re-done separately, it's listed in the bearing madness thread.

Thanks again Rob. I'll take a look to see if I can narrow it down from that site.

Clutch, not bearing.
