Ignition coil wires; recognize this termination?
 

I was just installing an ignition wire set from 928 Motorsports (these seem really nice, BTW) and everything was going great until I took a look at the ignition coil wires.

What's with this termination on one end of the wires? Look at the bottom side of each wire in the photo. This doesn't mate to the coil or the distributor cap.

I can call them tomorrow (and until then, I'll just leave my old coil wires on), but I'd like to know if anyone knows what's going on here. Maybe this mates to a different kind of coil? My coils are standard-issue, regular coils for an S4.

On my 88 S4, the bottom of those wires goes to the coils, and the tops of those wires, plugs into my bosch distributor caps just peachy.

When rebuilding my coil leads for the 90 GT I noted that there were different connections versus the 88. PET calls up different coil plugs for -88, 89 and 90- . Also different coil part no.s for -88, 89 and 90-.

If they are genuine Beru connections you could just unscrew the old ones from your old leads and swap them - or get back to Carl for the correct connectors

Another data point- those look like stock on my 86.5.

There are two different Porsche coil-connectors. My new Beru wire kit came with four coil wires, two of each type. First noticed this a few years ago when I changed coils from my 968 and saw the different coil-end connectors.

Yeah, a little more research (PET and various parts vendors) shows that this stuff changed in '89.

The expensive Behr wire kit I bought a couple years ago from Rog had two sets of coil wires, I guess to cover both types.
