1982 928 rear muffler bad. Advice sought...

While you did that modification, we did this on an 84:

Bolt-on a 32V 928 stock cat system that somebody removed (dual pipes out instead of single).

Weld a Y-transition to the above. (dual in, single out)

Cut the inlet flange and a couple inches of pipe off a good 84 cat-back. (single pipe system)

Weld them together. 85 cats to Y to 84 single pipe.

Why? 84 cat is restrictive / downpipes rusted away on mine. I couldn't find an 84 cat locally.
84 cat-back was solid as a rock! They make these pipes almost bulletproof.

Only ancilliary modification: must cut a slightly larger hole in the front heat shield to accomodate the location of the 32V oxygen sensor portrusion.

Solution cost $100, total.

go to your local custom exhaust shop. I had two done here, all stainless with cats.. So cats-back $500. Thats was 2 cats and a muffler and nice duel chrome tip

Sounds like a very good deal. I paid around $500 to replace just one bad cat on a Nissan
