On my drivers door only, when opperating either inside or outside door handle, the door lock button moves down. After a few times of opening and closing the door, the button moves down far enough that it locks. This has been happing for as long as I have owned the car, thought that after I had replaced the broken extirior door handle hinge that it might change, but no luck. This last weekend decided to work on the central locking system, and while I had everything out of the way would try to fix it. Got the locking system working, but still can't see a way to stop this from happening. I have tried it with both the motor installed and removed and still have the same problem. After reading the WSM, I tried to move the latch both up and down, also with no sucsess. Is there some other adjustment that I may have overlooked???

My 82 does the same thing so I'm interested in hearing a fix too. It only took 2 times of it locking itself with the key inside for me to start pulling the key every time I get out.

I gave the entire intierior lock mechanisim a thourgh cleaning, then sprayed down with liquid lock-ease containing grafite. I can now open and close the door about twenty times without this happening, and seems to be getting better. It is much easier to clean and lube with the sheet metal cover removed. Only two screws to remove, one next to the lock motor allen head screws and the other is located on the door next to plug that you need to remove to change out the door lock. I hope this will be able to help other that have the same problem.
