Default Shipping my new 928

I have been reading through old shipping threads and couldn't find too many recent posts.

I have gotten quotes from about 10 companies and the cheapest to go from NY to CO so far is $1200 for enclosed transport. This is Angels Transport and they are a broker, not the actual shiping company. All the direct companies I tried are all much more expensive, around $1500.

Intercity was $1500 and DAS was $1600. Anyone have any other suggestions? THese are the companies I have received quotes from. Am going to run into trouble if I use a broker?

Intercity

able auto
honesty first
bluestar
magic carpet

earth auto shippers

Almost all shipping companies are brokers. Hint they all charge the same and base their quotes on the last few hauls that were accepted with similar pickup and delivery areas. If you are about saving as much as you can you can work with a broker and tell them you are willing to wait for a lower price ride. Someone with an empty spot on their transport might pick it up for cheeps just to go ahead and make the haul with the rest of their load. I got my Range Rover hauled from NC to OKC for $500. I waited 3 weeks, paid the broker $100 and the hauler $400 on delivery. Mine was the last pickup and the first delivery.

I seem to remember UPS an FedEx also provide covered car transport.

Why not just drive it? What better way to know your car? That's what I did. Long Beach, Ca to Dubuque, IA 2 days. These things are made to cruise like that.

I would love to, but due to work and family issues right now I cannot take the time off to drive it back.

Intercity, horseless carriage and pilot transport. I had a really bad experience with DAS, luckily it was transporting my DD so I didn't really care about any scratches etc. Car arrived filthy and late by 3 weeks. Intercity was the exact opposite. They required exactly the amount of time they quoted and they updated me regularly as they made progress. Spend the extra and do it right.

I used Concourse and had good luck. No issues and very good about documenting the car when receiving and delivering. All covered as well.

1st rite of passage for a new 928 owner. Drive it home. Bear in mind though only voyages in excess of 500 miles count, and you can't have seen the car before you picked it up.
Great way to do your 1st "I've gotta fix that" list.
You may laugh but ask me how I know......
Tree years ago, I did 1,000 miles home, my own PPI, etc. etc. and...... over 30 thou later, (Not counting necessary maintenance) I am still happy with my acquisition.
Now I've actually said that, I'm screwed. The wheels are gonna fall off tomorrow.....

I 've used AA Auto twice, they had the best rates and I had no issues with them.

Maybe I could get it to Iowa for you.
Where is it and I could look at driving it to Iowa for you. You provide airfare, I'll get it 3 hours west of Chicago

Then you fly here and take it home. 12 hours maybe 14 to Denver from here.
I could park it in my driveway til you got here.

No charge of course other than you pay airfare and fuel. Wife and I could take a little drive. Leave kids at parents. Might be fun.

Back in July I purchased mine and had it shipped to me from Long Island to Austin for $1200 in about 4 days in an enclosed truck. The guy's name is Pat and he's with Ultimate Auto Shipping . com. He works from home and can be reached @ (954)796-2023. Good guy. Mention my name if you want. PM me if you have any questions. I would definately use them again. I spoke to him every day until I received it. I had never shipped a car before so I was pretty nervous about the whole thing.

I used FedEx to go from Southwest Florida to NJ. Cost was about $1250. Could have gone cheaper, but the savings just did not seem worth it. Total ship time was about 4 days. Be aware, when I shipped in May 2010, FedEx required an extra $500 if you want your car picked up on a specific day - this may still be the case. Overall, I think they did a perfect job of shipping and I would not hesitate for a second to use them again. Of course there are no guarantees you'll have the same experience.

Also, someone in the last 6 months on RL posted about shipping companies, and said they got a bunch of companies to submit competitive quotes, one of which was FedEx. I'll bet the price was lower than the FedEx premium especially if they had empty space on a truck going in your direction they knew they could not fill otherwise.

Dave

P.S. I got the rear top spot on the truck, and below me was a Model T Ford (bottom rear spot) when they dropped off my car.

I've used DAS prbably 10 or 12 times cross country usually to CO. They cracked the lower spoiler on this one. They've not given me any grief thus far about that looks like their paying for it.

To their credit, the car was set very low with the adj koni's. - very low I can't get it out of my driveway w/o scraping from the incline.

That is however - the only issue - ever with them in over 8-10 years. I've had really good luck actually.
