All three of my 78 cars have the bright trim and the body colored horizontal grills.
To much of a coincidence to all have been painted after production.

I've been stalking a rough red early '78 for a while. If I snag it I would be tempted to clone this one. I would have to find some pascha material, but I am sure Mr. Budd could could do the white vinyl. I wonder if I could get white cloth and silk screen the pascha on?

That's correct Rog - especially if they are early cars. Friend of mine here with a '77 930 said one of the distinguishing factors for model year varients on Porsches was that up through the end of 77, all window trim was bright. The black trim on Porsches first appeared sometime in '78, and not just on sharks. This guy is pretty sharp on his p-car history, so I don't doubt the veracity of that detail. As to the body colored front grill slats, mine are body colored too. All early models were this way AFAIK.

Man that car POPS! Seriously those colors look great together and the car just stands out. I wasn't old enough to appreciate just how different and futuristic this car must have looked back in the late 70's. Certainly a jaw dropper especially in colors like the one in the pictures.

yea Afshin... that last pic w/the show car
in the middle of other Porsche variants.
Stands out even there.
Notice the other 2 928's in that pic. The silver one is a US version which came a little later in the production sequence.
Shows the car hung around at Porsche for a while.

Preproduction cars were being built as early as January 1977. The final prototype cars were still being built in January, February.

Stunning, clean and refreshing look.
Must be the earliest of VIN's, assuming it had one. Its probably a showpiece tucked away by Porsche somewhere.
The picture with the 944 and 911 cars has two other 928's. The silver one has front USA-style markers, so the picture must have been at least somewhat later in the year.

the early cars are so unique, similar to the gts if you ask me
I'm sure this car is in the Porsche family garage somewhere
the 77 Frankfurt Motor Show 928 is in Va, vin #29, the reverse colors of this one, white w/lobster red interior... the owner has the original German title signed over by Ferry himself!
amazingly enough, the 928 got very little attention at the Frankfurt show, it was overshadowed by the debut of the Saab 99 turbo
