928 Orlando Meet in leu of canceled Daytona PCA Meet?
Too bad the Daytona PCA Meet is canceled due to the repaving of the speedway, just read about it in the Panorama Magazine (PCA).
I am going to miss seeing all our Florida 928 buddies!

I agree with you, Joe. The Daytona PCA race and the Sebring PCA race (Feb.) are two great events for having a 928 gathering.
I'm considering going to the Sebring HSR Race in Oct. as a substitute for the canceled Daytona race. It is a good venue with lots of Porsches and many other race cars, and a good three day race schedule. It costs more to attend, but it is worth it.

There's no need to cancel OUR event just becasue the PCA isn't going to meet. I propose that we meet at Old Town again and participate in the cruise in and car show. There is a pretty good go kart track next door and Old Town has something to offer everyone of every age group. Rides for the kids, restaurants, ice cream parlors and candy stores for the whole family, and bars for the adults. It's also really close to Disney if anyone wants to do that while they're in town. What do you think?

Currently, (subject to change without notice) Oct 16 or 23, & Nov 6 or 20 look open for me. Can't do Oct 2, or 9, or Nov 13. Let's get it together.....I haven't wrecked a go kart in quite a while!

Sounds fun. Would love to see some other Florida 928s. Those Texas guys shouldn't have all the fun. Settle on a date and I'll check the calendar. I think any of the dates above look good.

Hi Fabio,
Some kind of get together on a Saturday in October in would be fun. I have company the first weekend of October, but open after that.
Fabio, what and where is "Old Town"? Has anyone contacted Mel to see what he is doing or organizing?

Here is Mel's email about Daytona:
Mel and everyone,
I looked at the site for the Festival of Speed and I can only imagine a bunch of fellow 928'ers out in the parking lot of the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes swigging a beer and running around in shorts & flip flops.. haha. It would curl their hair!
Just an idea, could we find someplace to gather cars and people Saturday afternoon and possibly later have dinner together?
I dont know much about Old Town (never heard of it before now), but surely there must be someplace, set aside for 928's, we can gather casually, chat and have fun. Maybe the Old Town folks would give us a part of a field/parking lot for us to gather.
The car show, go cart racing and other fun stuff could be organized from there.
Just an idea, what does everyone else think?
Also, there maybe other PCA members who are looking for something to do in leu of the Daytona meet too. It wouldn't hurt to ask if they would like to join us and/or maybe they have some plans already.
VTY,
Joe
Hello Florida Sharkers!!
I hope everyone is doing well & had a great & safe summer. For those that have not yet heard, there will be no Sharks at Daytona this year because there is no OktoberFast PCA races at the Daytona Int. Speedway. This due to the track being repaved this fall & track officials canceling all events from Aug.-Dec. I've been meaning to send this email for a few weeks now & I apologize for not doing so sooner. Shawn was good to drop me an email asking what the plans were, which helped prompt me to get my rear in gear.
My thoughts for an alternative gathering have been towards us going to the Festival of Speed gathering on Oct. 10th in Orlando. Its a very high end three day car, boat, plane, golf, etc. event, with Sunday being the Car Show. They have several each year here in Fla & I think some of you have been to this event previously. The car show on Sunday only costs $10 and runs from 10am-4pm. Everything else is pricey for those of you with the big bucks! We'll have to wash our cars & dress up nice for this one I think! The link to the web site is also below for all to look at.
This event is on the same weekend that Sharks at Daytona was originally scheduled and it looks like a great event. I get an email from them each week & each one has different info in it. Pamela and I have already talked about going & as of now plan on it either way. As of now I cannot speculate on the possibilities of us coordinating an organized shark gathering. Even hopes of us parking together would be difficult with people arriving from different parts of the state and coming & going throughout the day. I don't see them accommodating us as Daytona & Sebring do each year. But if we had a large interest, I certainly am willing to ask.
Please look at the email below and their web site if you have any interest. Everyone who thinks they'd like to go please let me know asap. Depending upon how many might make the trip will help us know if we might be able to coordinate a get together like we did at Old Town too, an afternoon get together after the car show. That would be easy for us to arrange.

Joe, the festival of speed in St. Petersburg every year is something everyone should experience. I'm sure the Orlando event is very similar. I don't see why folks couldn't attend both. Kissimee is very close to the Ritz Carlton Orlando. In fact, it's 10.8 miles away.
