Does it sit directly on the steering shaft? If yes, it is AFAIK not available as a single item. Just the complete shaft price € 423.

To add insult to injury, they have none in stock in Germany and is a NLA item according to Porsche GB

I am having a new one made from polyurethane with metal sleeves. Problem is I have to kiss the race tomorrow good bye...

To get to it means a lot of work, the one on the 1984 is 26yrs old and I have no idea whether there is any play in it. The 1984 car is stock... Costs/benefit analysis tells me that it will "cost" less to forgoe the entry fee instead of paying the shop to take the 1984 apart, then install it on the 1990, then of course we would have to put the 1984 back together and finally once the race is over and the new part made, fix the 1990 for good... Moreover, Porsche list a RHD and LHD part numbers for the intermediate shaft. Maybe there is a difference in the rubber too?

As a famous comedian here once said - "****!"

I bought a rebuild steering rack for my 86.5 last week on german ebay for 1100 €.The rack for the later cars is 250 € cheaper. The rebuilder is ZF and the rack looks new.
My shop here in Germany has very bad experience with the cheap rebuilds.
Have you ask ZF in GB?

Alex,

have the shop either make an aluminum disc to go in it's stead. Or spin one shaft 90 deg and bolt the 2 shafts together that way instead.

This a race car and more vibration will affect nothing.

Colin,

Are you sure I can turn one half of the shaft at 90deg and then bolt it to the other one.

It appears that what you are saying is that the rubber guibo is there just to dampen vibrations and nothing else? If that is the case I could not care less for some extra vibrations. Hell yeah, I cannot even hear myself think in this car

Alex,

that is correct. They may want to slide a tiny but if there is a tiny bit of chassis twist but the amount would be negligable.
