new clutch kit '78,928 necessary to have balanced?
I will be installing a new clutch kit on my '78. Is it recommended, necessary to have new pressuire plate, old intermediate plate, flywhheel balanced at a shop?

I decided to have my new assembly balanced. I used the old flywheel, the old intermediate plate and a new pressure plate. The old pressure plate had balance drillings, as Jim noted, which were to achieve the final balance on the original assembly (and the new one had none .. of course).
I lined up the original index marks on the flywheel and intermediate plates and then fitted the new pressure plate to that assembly. It was necessary to alter the balance of the new pressure plate by drilling it in a similar fashion to the old one, to achieve balance of the total assembly.
If you are only re-assembling the old flywheel, intermediate plate and pressure plate then all you need to do is line up all the index marks ... but if you replace the pressure plate with a new one it won't necessarily be balanced. It'll probably be close .... but it won't be perfect.
I know most people don't balance ... and it probably doesn't matter if you don't ... but I wanted mine perfect.
The bottom line is that if you replace an old pressure plate with assembly balance drillings in the rim, with a new one with none, then you must be altering the balance of the assembly.
