Thread inserts in rear hub carriers
The thread inserts in the rear hub carriers of my '85 are pulling out. I'm referring to the thread inserts for the brake caliper mounting bolts. All of mine are about done. Anyone else experience this?
I think I'll use time-serts to repair them since they also make the oversize inserts for use in holes that already had a thread insert.

Uh, inserts? Well, if you need thread inserts, I do like Time-Serts and, as you said, Big-Serts for previously inserted holes. They will more likely take the torque as well.

I'm the master of mickey mouse fixes but would never even think about using insers for the calipers. If the treads pull out, replacing the spindls would be my only option.

You know, I think people are much more concerned about these bolts than need be. The stress on these bolts, unless overtightened (as I find a lot), is largely lateral rather than longitudinal. Also, Big-Serts should tolerate torque as well as the original hole.

this sometimes happens with corroded caliper bolts ,
There are steel threads in the hub carriers.
I also noticed this on my 86 and one of them had turned a bit when removing the caliper bolt .
some antiseize on the bolt and it went right in no worries, if yours are loose though a set of time certs should cure the issue
