82 was the last year that the 4.5 was available in RoW - so there are both non-S 4.5's, and S 4.7L 300hp 928's out there in "Euro" land.

All RoW "S" models have the 4.7L engine - but check the block numbers to make sure as I've seen a lot of the 4.5's "upgraded" with S spoilers locally... shame really.

'83 all RoW cars have the 4.7L 300hp engine, and '84 got the LH-brained 4.7L with 310hp.

Yep, in '82 for RoW, the S models have a VIN ending in 84xxxx, non-S are 80xxxx.

Master VIN thread:

Can also get option codes for any 928 from MY 1980 onwards out of PET.

Corret my 82MY RoW is a non-s and has the 4.5 220hp- but still has the s-type spoiler, not shure if ordered this way or added, but do like the looks with rather than without.

The S spoiler was available as an option back in 1980 on ROW cars IIRC.
Came to the US cars in 82. First US car with the spoiler as standard was the Weissach.

If your engine is a M28/09 or 10, it's a 229hp motor, if it's a M28/11 or 12, it's a 300hp one.

I've heard that with the early non S ROW 928 that it was possible to have them upgraded at the factory to an S, but that could just be crazy owner talk.

My rule is check the vin, check the motor ID, AND at least the casting number on the heads and intakes. Many cars have different parts than they came from the factory with.

One point of information: the Euro non-S 4.5s (MY78-82) were 240bhp, not 220 like the US cars. A 5 speed Euro 4.5 is easily the equal of an auto S or S2. They are quick cars and the 4.5 has a smoothness that the later cars lack.
