Power seat switch questions - anybody have one...or two;)?
I picked up an '88 S4 that's in need of various parts here and there. Many aren't absolutely necessary since it's going to mostly be a DE'er, but not being able to control the seat position is a PIA. It's missing the driver's side aft power seat switch (controls the seatback tilt & rear seat lift). ...so I need the entire switch.
The same aft switch on the passenger side is there, but messed up. The buttons don't click in any direction. Either a coincidence that this switch was problematic as well as the d/s, or the PO went after the p/s unit in an attempt to get something in the d/s seat and messed it up in the process. So my questions:
I'm at a bit of a disadvantage in that the car's not here @ my house. I haven't been able to 'visit' it much lately so I'm trying to gather whatever I can for each visit. |
I had the same problem when I bought my 928.
If you have the round 4-way switches, they are interchangeable drivers side and passenger side. New the switches cost a small fortune (~ 175 euro!), I got a pair of good switches from a 944 seat. I believe the switches are also used in some 911 models. The switches contain a couple of springs and metal ball's. They are serviceable, but be carefull when taking them apart (so the springs don't fly through the room or your car:-)) On my car, the PO probably also attempted to 'fix' a broken switch, and he lost most of the internals of the switch in the process. Changing the switch is not difficult if you have some basic soldering skills. good luck |
