Default Carbon Canister Delete

Let's say I want to delete the carbon canister (the big black thing under the fender on the passenger side, LHD). What do I need to do on my '88 to chuck the thing? Can I just stick a filter on the end of the hose and call it a day? Car is parked outside, so I'm not worried about gas vapors. Porken installed some kind of safety valve so that if the car flips the gas doesn't go everywhere. Does my '88 have this valve, or will I need to source one? I am removing all of the factory emissions equipment in favor of high-flow motorsport cats and a sharkvent system, vapors vented to atmosphere for now, maybe to cats later. TIA

Way back when on my '81, I -deleted- the factory tipover safetly valve and the overflow/separator tank, in favor of a small gas filter from the main tank.

I've kept both on my 32Vs.

'85-up, you can route the vapors to behind the rear bumper (as ROW cars w/o vapor recovery were), by connecting these hoses together:
