Default Backdating S4 to OB

I want to be able to easily swap between the S4 and OB style.

I have the ability to fabricate/customizing mounting hardware, but before I go and shop for OB parts I'd love to hear what kind of problems I might run into.

BTW: I've not taken the bumpers off my S4 yet, and not even seen the inside of a OB bumper, so go easy on me

Well, you would have to remove the rocker panel extensions, the front and rear fenders are both different and good luck replacing the REAR fenders! That is just 3 things that are quite obvious right there. Just go BUY a nice OB, it would be MUCH cheaper!

you beat me to it, James. My suggestion is to just buy one (or more) of each.
But look at the sources, I have three and James has seven, I think.

James, I thought about you when I saw this one today.
The OP could buy this one and still come out ahead.

You could divide that price by four and still maybe pay to much for this 79.

LOL!!!! OMG!!! $14k! WOW! Tell the seller to put the crack pipe DOWN!

Tim, count again... 8 is the magic number! If Bri buys the '84 then I will be back to a manageable 7! Ha Ha!!!

Ahh.. the rocker panels, I did not even think of those. After some pic searching I now see the rear bottom of the rear fenders are also quite different. Switching between S4 / OB look seem to bring out quite some challenges, but a permanent backdating still seem doable, but that's really not what I want.

My problem is winter storage, at the moment I've got 5 cars and only 2 indoor spaces and the snow will come Oct-Nov I have space for one 4-point storage lift, so that means I can only have 3 cars during the comming winter.

As much as I want an OB, building a $30K garage for it is a bit steep. The idea of having "2 cars in one" was fun for a while though

Yea, converting an S4 to OB would be a REAL difficult job to pull off. To do it permanently, sure, to be able to switch it back and forth...not so much! But if you think about it, just taking the wing off the S4 really changes the feel of the car, so that might be enough...gets you very OB-ish...

I wonder how many times people ask for crazy money for a car like that and actually get it! I am sure it happens.

More often than you would think.

Greg,
I would be very interested in the 79. The color and the pasha are awesome if original. Looks like Olive Green.
From your pictures the paint looks very good.
Price is high but all is negotiable.
Any other pictures? Can't read the full phone number.
Roger

I will go by and bring my good camera tomorrow and take some better pics for you.
I have the number in my notebook at the shop, but I will get it for you.

A man with good taste, that Roger. There's a LOT to like in that car. Great color and interior, no sunroof, no rub strips and a '78. A lot to PPI, but collectible on its face. Out of my range, but very desirable.

James, what did you pay for Blue '82?

I got the hankering for an OB, but just took the wing off the S4. Much easier, and I think I like the look best of all combos. You could always add phone dials if you wanted to take it to the next level.

Will,

That is between me and the seller... it was enough to park it in my garage and not more than I was willing to pay!
