airbox mortgage

Hello,

I hope you guys have a better source for air box straps. I took of my box today to review why my AC is only blowing HOT air. While i believe the heater plunger is bad, i noticed all of my air box straps were either rotten and or missing.

I guess i did not realize the straps were dipped in GOLD. A 911 OEM strap is only like 15 bucks and you only need two. (IIRC)

I noticed i can purchase some used straps for about $15 bucks from 928 international, but i was wanting to purchase a few new ones without mortgaging the house. LOL

Has anyone else used something else besides a bungee cord?

Also...when removing the air box, i noticed the lower box was stuck to a center piece item. DO i need to put some type of glue or sealant on the center piece and lower air box cover?

thanks for reading and any help you can provide. Non OEM parts is fine with me.

I got my new straps from autopartswarehouse for around $7 each.

Little bit different than stock, but a better and tighter fit.

Good stuff guys, oh...who is Roger? New used ?

My car is an 87 with the rubber and metal straps.

The velcro strap was a pretty good idea.

well it depends on the year, the style changed. 78-84 are like $10-$15 new each I believe.
85+ are $50 each :0

Thats why I posted the different years. The low cost alternatives are viable on the early boxes as they have a nice lip to wrap bungee and other alternatives. Later airboxes just have a little groove for the metal clip, tougher to 'home brew'.

We sell the 911 and early 928 straps for $4.75 each.
The later straps went up in price from $30 to $50 on the 1st June.

Back to the second part of the OP's question:

The lower section of the airbox fits over the airflow sensor housing with no sealant. The fit is snug there. A couple nuts hold the lower housing down, plus another pair holds the little brackets for the exhaust sample tubes. On the pass side, there's a hose connection from the bottom of the lid that gets blowoff air from the air pump. I leave the hose clamp there snug so I can R&R the lid without tools.
