While working through the in-tank pump trouble shooting on my car I found the fuel tank strap was badly rusted. Tmpusfugit donated a tank strap off of Dogbert, Thanks Jim!

Dogbert is a 1980 that has the pump and filter attached to the tank strap assembly. My 1979 does not use the additional bracket that is part of the 1980and later tank strap assembly. I have looked at the strap and it seems I can use the 1979 pump mount and cover with the 1980 strap as is. Do I need to cut out the pump/filter bracket from the 1980 strap asembly or use it as is?

You are certainly welcome to the parts...just to correct the record Dogbert is an '81. I don't know if that affects the answer to your question or not, I would be more than happy to send you the fuel pump and filter and bracket if that will help?

Thanks for the offer and the generosity of donating the parts in the first place. Think it is easiest to leave all the car fuel componenets stock and modify the tank strap if required.

I will try fitting it in the next few days and will then determine if I should cut out the 1981 pump and filter bracket or leave it as long as my pump and mount clear it. Appears the tank is the same from what I have been able to find in the PET so I should be good.

Really just seeing if anyone had fordged this path before me and had already done this.
