Mr Merlin Rocks!
Was passing through Denver on the way home from Montana and stopped to have supper with Mr Merlin. He pointed us to a nice local restaurant where we all had some great food (I had Buffalo pot roast with mashed and some delicious Butternut squash.) and conversation. Since the afternoon of the second day of my trip to Montana I had been having some hard starting issues that I put down to a possible leaking injector. The problem has been getting steadily worse. When Mr. Merlin heard the trouble I was having getting the car started he immediately said "Acts like a bad fuel pressure regulator or pressure damper." After we finished supper we went back to his garage and dug in. Sure enough, the rear damper was blown BAD! He just happened to have a spare working unit in his bin We also found that the recirc flap damper had given up sometime during the trip so we disconnected the vac line and he fashioned a stopper. We also did a few other quick fixes (coil grounds loose, taped the MAF connector jacket, and "adjusted" the cross brace mounts) and then I used his kit to give the girl a quick wash in the drive so that 1600 miles of grime could come off. We are now ready for the final day of our trek home thanks to the help and generosity of another 928'er. 928'ers are the best folks.
Time for bed now as we are getting and early start to our 12 hour drive. Guess my next project will be fuel regulator and dampers along with a recirc diaphragm and blower refresh.

Stan is always willing to help and his level of technical advice is great.
I hope one day I have the pleasure of meeting him and a couple of the other members here.

Stan is such an asset to the 928 community and locally to us in the Denver area. Mike, I'm sorry more of us from the Rocky Mtn Sharks couldn't make the dinner, it would have been great to meet you. Hope you make it back safely.

Made it home about an hour ago after driving through the remnants of hurricane Alex. At times I had to put the wipers on the highest setting AND slow down to 65mph! Finally got out of the rain east of Tulsa and the rest of the drive was nice and dry. Did have a few drips from the recirc flap housing so that is next on the list along with the recirc diaphragm and the fuel regulator/dampers. Stan's used damper worked perfectly all the way home. What a life saver.
I hope to meet a good number of the Rocky Mountain folks at 3rd Coast in November. I am trying to get things arranged to make the trip with my lovely bride. If I can't get that one together there is a local event in Eureka Springs, AR the following weekend that needs more sharks. Counting me there were only three out of 170+ cars last year (including TWO Carrera GT's) It is an easy 12 hours from Denver to NW Arkansas (hint hint.)

Agreed on Mr Merlin, he's a great asset to the community. It was nice to finally meet him at the 2009 OCIC.
Glad to hear there's another 928 in the area. There are a handful here in Tulsa. I've driven the GT to Branson via Eureka Springs, what a fun road! Would have been even better if my "rev limiter" (aka the wife) had been set a little higher.

I would second that motion with joy. He has posted good info to just about every question I have asked about my 79Euro. He was allways in the park. I applaud his willingness to help the rest of us. I know it takes a lot of time and patience.
Thanks again Stan, If you ever get to NC, you have a place to stay if needed and as much beer as you can drink

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
I am just putting back into this great community some of the knowledge and time it has given me.
This really is a great group of people with a dedicated passion for fine machinery.

I am currently running Conti Extreme Contact DWS on the rear (less than 6 months old) and Conti Extreme Contact M+S on the front that will be due for replacement this fall. I will be replacing the fronts with the DWS version as the rears have performed really well for the price. The wheels are a set of Mille Miglia Cup 1 replicas (R=9x17 ET52, F=7.5X17 ET47). As soon as funds provide I plan to switch to either a Porsche set of Cup 1's in the correct offsets or , if the wallet and timing don't allow the Cup 1's then a set of OEM 18" Carrera III's. The only issue with the ET47 fronts is some tram lining on more rutted asphalt. I really hope I can score the right Cup 1's when the time is right as I really like the look. It will be a while yet as I still need to get the fuel and HVAC systems fully sorted, do MM/OPG/Rod brgs, front spoiler/belly pan, and get the front seats re-done before deciding between new wheels/tires or a rebuilt PSD.
Jwise, there are two or three other 928's here in the Fayetteville/Springdale/Bentonville area that I have seen. Two are pre-S4's (one red and the other brown) and a nice GTS in black that was at PorschePalooza last year. I hope some of the OK 928's can make this years event, but being as it is right after 3rd Coast I realize it may be wishful thinking.
I am off to clean up from the trip home. Thanks again to Stan and everyone who makes the 928 community the best.

Stan has probably forgotten more 928 stuff than most of us will ever know. I miss talking to that guy at Sharks at the Lake.

Speaking of 928's in Tulsa, and NW Arkansas - the '89 S4 manual that I have and use for my track car spent a good bit of time in both. Originally sold in New Hyde Park NY, it went to Tulsa in the early '90's, was owned by a couple in Real Estate. After about 7 years there, it was sold to a used car dealer in Springdale AK . He used it as his personal car and skirt attraction machine until he concluded that a Hummer might work better for his interests!! I bought it with 112K miles on it in December of '06, drove it home, renovated all the rubber and plastic items in the engine compartment, installed the Eibach/Koni adjustables, heavier sway bars, Recaro SRD seats, Fikse wheels and took it to the tracks. 14K miles later, it still runs and drives wonderfully. Must be due to it's good midwestern roots (now driven by a native of Cornhusker land!).
