Spectre 341 Challenge....hows a 928 stack up?
The last time they did the classic Virginia City Hillclimb was in 2002...two Devek Built Strokers were there to represent 928's.....Don Hanson managed a 3:35.08 and Kim Crumb drove the Devek White car to 3:28.9.......
To put that performance in perspective.....this past weekend the TOP tuners from across the world tried the same mountain....the overall winner was LG Motorsports in their highly modified ZR1....the time....3:21.75
http://highperformancetrucks.com/gal...f026d67e32a6c8
After looking at the results...out of ALL the cars entered...only 4 were faster than the time the white car ran 8 YEARS ago......
Moral of the story....the 928 was decades ahead of its time.....when properly prepared its performance still is on par with the best in the world.....

Isn't that amazing! What an engine in that car! AND of course what a car the 928 really is...even to this day! A platform that was so far advanced beyond its day!

Just ask any of the umpteen cars I passed on Friday what they think of the 928 "estate"....corvettes, vipers, spec racer ford thing...whatever.... All I know is if a nearly stock 26 year old "wagon" passed my big HP machine....I'd be sad too

No one seems to have picked up on the fact that the 01 car (2001 996 Turbo) didn't make it. He died after missing one of the upper turns. From what I heard, he was driving with factory seat belts, which certainly would be less effective than a full harness. The guy was 37 years old and from Las Vegas.
Also, it's been my understanding that a Virginia City Hillclimb has been put on almost every year since I've been up here. The Ferrari Club of SF and a chapter of the Shelby Club have put on at least some of the events (I was at the 2009 event).
Another Viper driver and his best friend's wife were killed a few years back. Story has it that the street tires unexpectidly hooked up and over they went. No seat belts and no helmets.

Wow, that looks almost exactly like the road to Montana's own Virginia City, not far from where I live. I would have sworn it was! Just a slight tad longer, otherwise the same terrain, types of turns, etc.

VRAlexander's demise has been discussed widely in OT and on many other boards across the net. Lots of 'interesting' information not directly related to his mishap. Hadn't heard about using factory seatbelts, if that's true I'm surprised he was permitted to run.
Doug Hayashi's written some nice writeups of the event in the past:
