Default Insufficient oil pressure

Reading on Dash "insufficient oil pressure " oilprssure about 1 bar

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whenever I idle or drive slowly uphill, above warning comes on; reading of oil pressure is about 1 bar and vehicle idles roughly, then when I increase rpm on more level surface, oil pressure is 5 bar and signal disappears; I have replaced what appeared to be low oil(usually burns 1 quart per 1000 miles) but do not want to overfill--dipstick does not have markings but is 3inches full from bottom of dipstick; I have been religious about oil changes; something about reading is positional--I do not think more oil will cure reading above. Please advise...

What year/model is your car?

What oil do you use?

What climate do you live in?

Have you checked the oil filter for metal?

If it happens when the engine is hot, it sounds like the oil thermostat/pressure springs need to be replaced, https://www.928gt.com/ps-26005-79-oi...kit-77-95.aspx

15w-50 or 20w-50 here in Texas, that oil is way to thin for here. Where in Tx are you located?

5W40? Very thin for that heat.

Check your owners manual for oil weight versus climate. My '89's manual doesn't list 5W40 - it rates 10W10 as good for up to 90 degrees, so I'd be changing to a thicker oil that gives better pressure (I live in a warm climate too.. and run 20W50, but we don't get below about 40 degrees F)

Lots of your fellow Texans use Mobil 1 15W50 - has a good working range for 928's, and unlike the lower weight modern oils, it has more zinc/phosphorous for wear protection. Brad Penn is also a good choice if you can find it.

I'd cut your old filter open to check for metal, install a new filter and change to 15W50.

Open the filter up to check for damage. Go to 20w-50 amsoil if you find no signs of wear. If filter is full of crap time to rebearing the rod bearings.
