They pop up fairly often in Europe. I found mine by Googling the part number and getting a hit on a pair for sale at a little tuner shop in Germany. They were offering them on behalf of a customer.

More frequently, I see them on eBay in the UK and Germany, mainly the latter. In this case, Google Translator is your friend, unless you speak German. Happy hunting!

Here's a set with 8x17 ET70, currently on eBay (Germany), but only 55 minutes left on listing...

Shipping to USA must really, really expensive.

For eBay searches, try, then save as a favorite, then check weekly ....

The 8's were a winter wheel option for the 993 so they are available in the states though still rare. It is the 9's that seem to have hardly made it over here.

Do those 8" ET70's work...seems like the offset is a bit much for an 8" rim...that would be better than the 7.5" normally found on the GTS, but still the 9" is the bomb! Put 255's up front and 275's out back (or probably 275's FRONT and back) and man that would be some nice rubber for a GTS!

I picked up a set of cupII wheels from a guy here in florida. The fronts are 8" ET47 and the rears are 9" et 52.3. They have track tires mounted to them with 235/40/17 up front and 275/40/17 out back. Now i have a 86.5 and they have spacers on the rear. When i mounted them they rubbed the heck out of the well once driving. What is the ideal tire combo on these to keep my spacers on the rear, or should i pull the spacers and get shorter studs? Also i was only test fitting, i pulled them right back off after i pulled from the driveway.

Here's the tires mounted on the 8 and 9 ET70 rims, as compared with stock GTS front rims. Notice the GTS stock front tire size is limited to 8.5" wide rim, so the 9 here has a larger tire size to accomodate the larger rim.

Here's a comparison with the 9s and tires that JWise is running...

Here's a couple shots of mine.

NOTE: the steering wheel is turned very slightly to the left in these pictures, so the wheels are not exactly straight on. Even so, you can tell the ET70 offset prevents this relatively wide wheel from sticking out too far. By comparison, the 996 Carrera lightweights with the ET50 stick out noticeably further than this. The later Carrera III's with the ET57 offset fit better, but still not as good as these ET70's, IMHO.

James,

The et 70 offset in the 8" wheel keeps the centerline of the tire (you can go wider than 225) within 1 mm of where it is with the et 65 on the 7.5" wheel. Thus, they are a perfect match. The centerline is moved out about 12 mm when you go to the 9" et 70 wheel. Thus, you'll get a bit of scrubbing of the tires in sharp turns (if the surface is a bit slippery, one of them will skid slightly).

Although I'm running the 18" (8 & 10") Sport Design 2 piece optional wheels from the early 996's on my GTS, I have the cup II's as "original" wheels if I want to do a concours show. However, I've replaced the original 7.5" et 65 fronts with the 8" et 70 wheel. As stated above, these were a "winter" rear wheel on the 993's, and can be rarely found in the northern US or in Canada (as well as more commonly in northern Europe).

Cheers,

Gary-

Jarrod, that is one of the most beautiful 928s I've ever seen.

That will be all.

I have been running 245/45-17 on 8x17 ET70 Cup II together with 6mm spacers making effective ET to be 64mm. This is like 8x16 ET60 Club Sport wheels with extra 4mm removed from centers to give extra room for wider tires tovards fenders. They are virtually perfect fit. Depending on tire they will rub on full lock to inner fender. That can be easily solved by installing few mm thicker stoppers to steering rack ends.

Back to school for you Gary!

With both the 8 and 9 wide rims (ET70), the offsets (front mounting pad to centerline of rim width distance) are 5mm off from the stock GTS front rims (ET65).

A 5mm spacer, similar to what Vilhuer has done, is required to bring the centerline to the same position as the GTS rim.... if that's your objective placement.

That's a pretty big tire..

With the spacers, did you measure/compare the lug nut thread engagement with the stock rims to see if you needed longer studs up front?

Not that much bigger than stock.

Rears are 275/40-17 on 9x17 ET55 and 43mm spacers vs 37mm stock setup on GTS to keep ABS brain sane and get tires outer edge right to fender. Using some other tire brand same size could rub. Its really close.

Code:
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/km Difference
225/50-16 112mm 316mm 631mm 1984mm 504 0.0%
245/45-17 110mm 326mm 652mm 2049mm 488 3.3%
275/40-17 110mm 326mm 652mm 2048mm 488 3.2%

IIRR nuts are around seven threads in when they thighten. No problems on past 5K miles. I wouldn't use 0.5mm larger spacer with stock studs.
