928S Engine Question
I'm a 911 guy and don't know much about the 928s. Have a buddy looking into one and the seller says the aluminum S engines were made by Buick! I told him the guy must be nuts. So...am I the uninformed or is this Buick thing somebody's myth?

There may be a myth there somewhere that I'm not aware of, but all 928 engines (or at least those that were in the cars when they left Zuffenhausen) were Porsche in-house designed and produced.
There are some 928's, even a few on this forum, that now have GM engines in them, but that's not OE.

Perhaps the seller is confusing the 928 engine with the Rover 3.5L V-8 that was originally designed by Buick in 1961 or so (?)

The Buick /Olds and Rover alloy V-8 used ferrous liners. The Vega was alusil just LIKE the 928 block with all the same issues of needing "special" piston coatings , honing to size with the paste ,and being rather brittle prone to cracking because of the high silicon content.
