Trailer hitch
Hello!
As I've read the owner's manual for the 928 and some threads here on the forum, I see that it excists some kind of a trailer hitch for the 928. I've found one page on the internet desciribing how to make one, but didn't feel that it was solid enough to handle the 1600kg that it's rated for. So - does anyone have any drwaings, or detailed schematics of the original, or similar, trailer hitch? Haven't found much drawings with measurements on them. Would love to tow my race car with the 928 :) |
I think there was a factory one for sale in Germany a while back.

Found this on the net.., might be useful ?

I found on CL and installed a factory hitch on my 928. don't know how well I can get pictures of it at is is pretty well hidden by the rear bumper cover. I'll try to find some time to get some pic's this weekend if you like. I have the factory 50mm ball mount for it which works for a 2" hitch. I still need to come up with a solution for a 1 7/8" ball and possibly some sort of reciever (1 1/4").

Rhetorical question: Is that something that could be Porkenized?

Do you still use it ? If you don't, would you sell it to me ? Thank you |
I also would be very interested in knowing exactly how the factory tow hitch attaches to the mounting points (and exactly where these points are).
I would like to get a hitch for my car so detailed dimensions/drawings in addition to photo's would be ideal to assist in fabrication - anyone willing to produce this? Any chance one of our wonderful vendors could arrange for the manufacture of a run (or maybe sell the details to allow fabrication locally)? Myles |
Wow, I am impressed. 10 posts and no one is crying a river that a 928 should not be towing anything. I guess I'm spending too much time over in the mbworld forum.
I would also be interested in a production run of these hitches if the price could be kept reasonable. Dan '91 928GT S/C  475hp/460lb.ft |

I'm planning to tow my 924 race-car with my 928. |
Hi.
I mounted a factory hitch like the one in the above picture (made by oris) on my 89 GT a year ago. I use it to tow my track car and the 928 is very good at it. I have the mounting instructions for it maybe that can be useful. I posted a couple of pics of the cars on the random picture thread. Around page 395 i think. Regards Peder |
Hi !
Could you give us towball measurements and detailed pics ? |
Are there any in Germany still? Wonder what the price would be to buy any remaining and reman it in the US. The design doesn't look that sturdy and can probably be vastly improved and made to include a 2" ball.

There is a one on ebay.de, but it is a Westfalia, and it only fits S4 and later 928s : http://www.ebay.de/itm/Porsche-928-S...item53e8805aa3

Found an old thread on the trailer hitch coupling.
I have what seems like the one-and-only 928 Factory fitted with the trailer hitch.... I will try to take some pics of the mounting when I have the rear bumper cover off for painting soon. :-) |
Pics of the factory mounted tow bar. Will take more pics when I have the bumper cover off.
