Yes, solid mounts do lend themselves to use in track cars, but can be used on the street. Plus side is their durability and added clearance. Downside is the vibration.

Were these factory mounts that were going bad so quick?

We also do not sell rebuilt water pumps but that company in your link still does - go figure.

Thanks Roger;

Remember I was new last year and may have made a few errors but so far so good.

I hope I have two of the good mounts because the engine is coming out and it would be a good time to replace them, but so far they seem to be strong.

God of all the things to screw up I would have thought the MM would be the last on the list.

Volvo has a good rep and you guys should be good with them.
I may pick up a set and install them when the engine is out just for ****s and giggles.

Glad you found a fix Roger. BTW could you post some of your 3rd coast pics at 928OC. I am sure that they would love to see what they missed.

This is a very interesting article ! It is almost two years since the last post.

Is there any new information on the use of a Volvo motor mount in a 928 ?

Is there an advantage to the use of an OEM Porsche MM instead of a Volvo one ?

Is price the only advantage to using a Volvo MM ?

The Porsche mount is slightly shorter. In order to use the Volvo mount you need to shave the "safety hook" ends so they don't contact each other. And the extra height can present an obstrucion when re-installing cross member unless you mount one MM on the block and the other on the cross member or something like that - I haven't installed them to encounter this. The lower stud on the Volvo mount MAY be a bit too long as well and come close to making contact with the steering rack unless the stud is shortened, although Roger remedies that OR it was only an issue with the other "Anchor" mounts. The stud is different width and thread, but Roger includes new nuts and washers.

Yep. So far, based on reports here, they seem to be holding up well several years out. My original Porsche mounts were ~half collapsed at 15 years when I replaced my pan gasket. Of course, I did the motor mounts at the same time, again with Porsche at that time. Eight years later I can't detect any change from when I installed them. You can use the gap between the safety hooks and/or the gap between the cross member and the pan as a gauge. With the stock mounts, if you can get your finger between the hook ends, the mounts are on their way out and the gap between the pan and cross member will be small. If you can get a finger and 1/2 in between the hooks, the pan is probably close enough to be making contact with the cross member at least some of the time and you will feel engine vibration primarily in the lower RPM range.

We just installed a set of the Volvo mounts a couple weeks ago. Fit is fine except they start out maybe 10-15mm taller than the factory mounts. I adjusted the lower mount hook for the difference, and they went in fine and hold the engine up fine.

Feedback from users over the last couple of years has been good so far with the Volvo mounts. I'm a big fan of the hydraulic-style mounts for their dampened movement. It makes the car more comfortable, while it eliminates any possible resonant movement that might happen with a hard-rubber or solid polyurethane mount.

My own car has genuine Porsche mounts in it now, and they are about 8 years old at this point. There's less than 6mm of compression on them in that time. If/when I need to renew them, I'll look carefully at the Volvo mounts as a substitute. By then, we should have a lot more group experience to draw on as far as lifespan/durability.

There are more than a few other threads on users' experiences with the Volvo mounts. A little bit of Rennlsit search effort will get you more info.

HTH!

Roger...I still have a set I bought from you back in late 2008. Are they still good? They are still in my "to do" box. The metal has a golden Cadmium plate finish.
