Default Purchased my first Porsche

Just recently I found an '84 Porsche 928s. I am new to the Porsche world and have to say this car is very well engineered! They have thought of everything back in the day with engineering and quality to match.

With an older car there are some quirks. The drivers power seat works but when you use the passenger power seat control to move the seat closer to the dash or back further it blows the fuse. Any ideas why?

Another odd thing....the stereo and rear door latch worked for awhile then became inoperable. Sounded like a bad connection. Well I took it out on the car and floored it and the stereo and rear door latch worked? Can anyone explain this?

I am curious what does everyone put in for fuel in their Porsche 928's? I am thinking putting in Super Unleaded, 92 Octane non ethanol. Most fuel here is Oregon is 10% ethanol, but there is one station that sells super with no ethanol.

Included are a few photos of the 928. Give me some ideas of what you think of the ride along with some pointers on these cars. After finding out and doing some research the electrical components seem to be quirky.

All insight and feedback is welcome!

What a great site and resource we all have here.

Hi Porsche928Oregon.

I can tell you, as a fellow newbie, that people on RL are so kind and generous with their time. I have met people online here that I consider true friends, not only in the context of 928s.

What I like to do is use the search function, which is fifth menu option from the left, and use the "advanced search" to search only within the 928 forum. A lot of my questions have been answered before. When I cannot find my solution, then I post to the forum. Usually (actually, without fail) the answer comes up almost instantly from a knowledgeable person on the board.

In my own limited (3 years) experience with my 86.5, I've learned that electrical problems are at least 75% of the problems with my particular car. I've been systematically replacing or cleaning electrical components throughout the car to make more things inside it run. (When I purchased it, neither window worked, the back hatch didn't work, the cruise control (tempostat) didn't work, A/C didn't work, radio didn't work (it would turn on, but then shut off when the music went above mezzo forte) etc. etc.)

Wally Plumley's Annual Electrical Maintenance list was very helpful to me.

Good luck with your car!

When you floored it, perhaps the alt finally gave a good dose of juice to the relays involved and kick-started them back into life.
