A little bit. I got my test-rig out, and remeasured all the values, and have identified a digital potentiometer which should work in this application. This significantly reduces the complexity and layout of the board. By moving over to serial devices for the potentiometer and solenoid control, I should be able to reduce the pin-count and cost. I have not gone much farther with the new design than that.
I am hoping to capture a schematic next week, and get this off to prototype. I was hoping to get something running for SITM, but this year has been a huge time and resource drain.
Thanks for the motivation,
Hans

I always thought driving head-down in the cockpit was a good way to get KILLED!!! If you have a luxo-barge and just sit in it, point it vaiguely down the middle of the road and stomp on the loud petal, OK.
BUT a 928 is a car that you DRIVE, not just ride in. Having nav. screens, computers etc. in your car means you tend to have your head imbedded in your solid waste exaust port. There are enough of those "drivers" on the road already. HANG UP AND DRIVE!!!

If my comments were taken as a denegration of all the work that has gone into this project, then please accept my MOST HUMBLE APPOLIGY. With a Bs in Electronics AND a Masters in Radiation Physics I fully appreciate the amount of work envolved in something like this. It's a very good Phd thesis project and I'd give them an A+++ for it. It's just my style. I've just had too many close calls with "drivers" texting, talking on the phone, playing with the nav screen, reading E-mails Etc, so maybe my perspective IS a little warped. EVERY SECOND you are head down you cover 88 feet @ 50MPH. (for me thats 2nd gear) I readily admit the console controls DO need work. For example: power window, sunroof, and rear wiper switches ALL FEEL THE SAME. Personally I would like to be able to tell them apart just by touch. Controls should fall readily at hand and feel different (just my opinion). I got an 83 Shark BECAUSE it's basically a driver's car. I like my cars LEAN & MEAN. I leave navagation to my co-pilot. This project is a REAL TECHNOLOGICAL TOUR DE FORCE, GOOD ON YA, MATE!!! it's just not for me. So don't let my comments deter you at all.

Not any good news.
The material used for the original framework has had a chemical change, and now does not perform the same. I am in contact with the manufacturer, and also several other plastics distributors to try and find a replacement.
I am going to investigate pricing on an ABS injection molded insert instead. This would allow for a much more factory look, but limit customization. Console core has been sent out for digitizing for creation of the ABS insert for bid.
Hopefully its not necessary, and we can find a new plastic substrate that will perform as specified. Also looking at making the panel with a different construction method where the bend is constructed from aluminum instead of the plastic material.
Thanks
Hans
