I was originally looking at a black on black combo as my interior is also black. I decided against black as it will show all of the mistakes that are made more so than any color.
Then I thought about black lacquer as I could wetsand every coat and the depth of lacquer is unmatched in my opinion. They also have a clear for lacquer now and I really didn't think I would have a problem with chiping etc. Also different. Easy to repair......I chickened out.
I decided on the blue as I had a old car with that color. I bought pearl green to go with the clear as green pearl with blue is striking! Also chickened out.
I would go with a paint scheme like the eclipse/orange/cooper or a paint scheme like Eleanor...greywith the black strips. I would go with the strips like porsche does 3 stripes thick in the middle and a thiner one on each side.
I would also look into a British racing green. I recently saw a Charger hemi with that color and it was striking!

MRMERLIN, a guy named Stan who posts on here frequeltly has His 928 in his avitar and it is probably the richest looking 928 I have seen. It is kind of a goldish cream metalic or pearl color. Have a look at it.
Another color I am going to consider for one of my projects, the Early Panamera conversion, is a similar kind of goldish-light bronze metalic color I saw once briefly on a late model Cadillac DTS. I haven't tracked it down yet, but I have not ever seen that color again.

The unique styling of the 928 is one of the best features of the car. IMO, black and most dark metallic colors tend to hide the lines of the car. Petrol blue is one of my favorite 928 colors. BMW has had two awesome colors in recent years - do a google image search for M3's in "Laguna Seca Blue" and "Phoenix Gold". I like the suggestions for bright metallic oranges and coppers too.

Arena Red is probably the closest thing to Candy Apple Red that Porsche offered.
That 928 posted by Tom M. looks amazing.
Merlins car color is also awesome and unique. Not too loud but definitey stands out in a subtle way.
