One more vote in favor of making sure of what is leaking. There are several hoses O-rings and and connections above the pump that can fool you. If it is an O-ring on the water bridge, I wouldn't hesitate to drive it home and fix it there. If it is a hose, fix it first. If it is the pump, ship it and get the pump, belt, tensioner, etc., fixed correctly.

Mine was replaced about 3k miles (12months) ago and it developed a small leak. I drove it to work and back (about 60 miles commute) for a 2 days and the leak got much worse so I am in the middle of replacing the w/p. If you want to drive the car as-is it will be a very expensive drive!

Send Lizard (Colin <cjensan@gmail.com) a note. He's up in BC (just across the border from Blaine) and he can get you taken care of....

+1. I helped a local owner check and tension his timing belt. We noticed there was a slight leak at the pump shaft. Took it for a test drive and monitored coolant loss. Concluded he could make it the 120 miles home without losing much coolant. He didn't make it 40 miles before it seized. We call this learning the hard way.

That would be your best bet. A Rennlist member can be trusted far more than any mechanic you may find in the phone book. You may even have the opportunity to learn more about your new 928 that way.

I was thinking of bidding on that car but I would even be nervous driving it from Victoria to Vancouver with that water pump. I would ship or change the belt before driving outside of Vancouver.

+1 on Colin changing your belts
