I agree with Mark Benton. For the overall money spent, you couldn't by a car at twice the price with that performance!

HAH!!! I think we all know which a$$hole this refers to!

Great job so far, Tuomo!! Remarkable power output. Out of superstition, I will save my real congratulations until you get the engine management dialed in right and spit out some new dyno curves! And then do a 1/4-mile-long burnout! (I'll buy the tires)

I'll try to record some audio at some point. It doesn't sound like a European sports car, it sounds like the Hells Angels on identical bikes riding fast in a formation. That's what you get from not having a cross over, one needs to go in ASAP, not for power but for sound. But these are all matters of taste.
Tuomo,
John does some nice work.Thats a very good price for all the power and work.
Do you plan on taking it down the track after the tuning for couple runs?
Looking forward to audio or videos.
That is one wild 928 !

I also think a Tilton triple disc like Simards would NOT be good on the street......great for race applications...but would be a nightmare in traffic

Actually I wasn't thinking about Brett. (We shouldn't give him ****, we wanted a 1/4 mile time slip and he gave it to us. He's done his part.) This was just me trying to not let Dynojet fooling me into believing that I have something that I don't.

Yes, once I got the tuning and logging set up I'll do some 1/4 mile runs for data acquisition.

At this point, Carl Leguia is the only one who's guaranteed a test drive. ;-)

When modeling this car in EAP, I've come to appreciate the centrifugal supercharger approach more. It's a pretty damn good fit with a stock cam S4. There's room to up the boost above 5500 without knock risk, and centrifugal does that naturally. Because of this good natural fit, your kit on an S4 is really cost effective horsepower.

Can you elaborate on why? I haven't seen one in use yet, so I don't know exactly how it feels. Too grabby for stop and go driving?

Yes, way too grabby. I don't think you can "slip" a clutch like that. It's on...or it's off.

From what I gather - to clarify - the on/off situation/feeling is from the disk material (many times sintered metal or some other grabby material), not the hydraulic throw out bearing - as that is the way that chevy does it on their street cars. If it didn't work well, we would be hearing from the geriatrics that buy buy corvettes.

The clutch plate materials can be made quite modulatable.

MUCH appreciated! I would love to see the speed it generates in 4th and 5th on the highway.

exactly....racing clutches are like light switches.......especially high HP ones.... However Anderson and Fan both run them and don't seem to have a problem putting around the paddock?

I don't use a triple disc.
I use cerametallics which are slippable and I consider them nicely driveable. Sure that's subjective but it sounds like everyone is assuming a 3 disc metallic is the only thing to use with my flywheel. Not every 7.25 clutch is a nascar setup with really heavy PP and metal discs.
You can also get organic discs and run those or mix and match and use different pressure plates. I run 2 cermetallics and get used to them within 5 minutes of driving the car. 2 organic discs should satisfy the softest geriatric here
Heck, you could make it just like a 928 twin that's lighter, has cheaper parts and no intermediate plate shenanigans!

Sorry for the hijack Tuomo.

Your car rocks!

Yeah, I put a racing clutch in my girlfriend's Subaru WRX, and it's very annoying for street use.
As you let out the pedal, it just grabs and goes. No slipping. It's like you either are accelerating,
or clutch in and braking. Stoplight gradual acceleration is just not possible. Stop signs and stop
lights are the worst. You want to have a gradual engagement, and race clutches just don't
do that. Imagine with your stock clutch, at a light, and every time the light turns green
you drop the clutch. It's like you are forced to behave like you are drag racing at every light.
You have to either rev it and go, or sit there and lug the engine. I'd be very cautious
about what kind of clutch you put in there...
