Since this vehicle has been barely used from day one, there has never been
a need to perform any routine service (except for oil changes).

Because of the way this vehicle was preserved in a climate controlled indoor environment,
all of the components (especially the hoses, belts and gaskets) are still in brand new condition (soft, rubbery, uncracked and undeteriorated).
One of the proper preservation methods used was to regularly start the vehicle until it warmed up, that resulted in always having fresh gas in the tank.
so the sales guy wants you to feel confident that the "components" are in perfect shape and that it routinely idled for 20-some hrs to consume full tanks of gas...

due to the age of the original parts that are still intact, the vehicle will need to have at least the original tires, belts, hoses and brakes replaced.
...but you'll need to spend 2k if you purchase it, in order to drive it....

Don't get me wrong, Beautiful car I'd love to own, even at a premium, but reality check for the sales guy and price expectation please!

OMG. Charity Donation. Bet the charity got far less than these flippers will.

My 86 was headed the donation route before we intervened.

Most charities seem to not have a clue, they contract with some "friendly" third party which does all the pickup and selling and passes back some percent of the net, less expenses, sale price (and that is all you get for a deduction as I understand it). My guess is that it could have sold for just a few thousand dollars, but that is a pure guess.

The low mileage makes it valuable, but for 40K, I could get a GTS. For 30K, I could get a primo condition S4 and have money left over for a timing belt, intake refresh, and have money left over for a supercharger install.

Sadly, this car will spend eternity as a garage queen.

I talked to these guys and they said they had an offer of $30k and I told them, if you have a $30k offer TAKE IT!! I told them that was MAX dollars for that car if not a bit to much! Clearly they didn't take my advice...OR there was NEVER a REAL $30k offer!

Black on Black...HA! I think he meant to say BORING not unique!

Isn't it missing the linkage for the cruise control?

What's wrong with the way it's been lifted there Ed?

As for the price- it's just too high. The service required is unquestionable, but not a problem. The car is nice as could be, and I think they paid $12k for it.

Take a look at where they lifted it from in the ebay pics Mason - that shop didn't use the lift points, and thus risked damage, or at least deformation, to the undercarraige - which would be a shame on a speciman like this.
Somebody needs to grab this car!
I'd go mid-30's for it if I were in the market. I think it's that good. Imagine having a brand new 928!

But it's not brand new, not really. It's mummified. Whoever buys this car is going to spend a lot of time looking at every fuel line, vacuum line, filter, seal, hose, belt, wire, relay, etc, etc, etc, just to get it back to "like new" status.

I think this car is too nice to own. If I bought it, I would never want to drive it for fear of adding miles, sit in it for fear of marking the seats, or touch it for fear of breaking something.

I think the only person / entity it maybe makes sense for is a collector, or a car museum like the one on the old pharma family estate on Cape Cod (there is could make sense).

Ed, me too! Anything needing changing would get fixed in two weekends in the basement garage. Just like every other one that passes through.
