Disconnecting the LED's is a quite a big job. They are the red ones from Jaeger. They come in their own housing and you have to take off the whole binnacle. I'm going to try the relay first and see what happens. Try the easiest solutions first I think, before taking the dashboard apart again.

Maserati still in workshop still needs $3500 accelarator potentiometre. The 928 with its issues also. I ended up driving to work today on my Vespa. Gues what happened at around 5pm when ready to leave for home... YOU GUESSED IT, IT RAINED LIKE HELL.

Not sure how i missed this yesterday.

Given the recent interventions in the pod/binnacle area the defrost switch would be my first point of call, followed by the demist timer relay followed by the electrical part of the ignition switch (make sure it is properly connected to the key part).

Beware that most Auto electricians with any sense will run a mile from a 928 and you don't want to trust it to an electircian with no sense either.

Where in Sydney are you jmichos ?

I do like the alternative transport - 928 no worky take the maserati, maser no worky take the lambretta. I wish my 3rd option was still as stylish alas it's 928, 928, Hyundai, Feet.

I live in the east near Kensington.

And yes other than the 928's we both have in common, we also have the feet. If the Vespa doesn't cut it tomorrow it will be the Feet. Plenty of petrol in the feet now especially after easter.

I see you're in Sydney too. Where abouts are you Jon?

Hi jmichos

I'm North very North and still be able to claim Sydney ish - in Mt Colah. There's quite a few of us North of the bridge - Frenchs Forest, Belrose, Warriewood, Mona Vale Pymble spring to mind but there's more.

I'm pondering the fact that disconnecting the battery stops the engine when the key is turned off. In theory it shouldn't as the alternator output should keep the engine running. However if there is enough resistance due to dirty grounds and corroded connections and the demist relay is sticking on, keeping the ignition circuit powered up, then the disconnection of the battery could drop the alternator output voltage enough to not power the fuel pump and injectors and cause the engine to stop. I'll have to ponder this one.
