Default I need to borrow a flywheel removal tool in the Palo Alto Area

Hey all, I'm swapping out my engine and I will need to move the flywheel from the old engine to the new engine, but to do so, I need one of those fancy three-square sockets (or whatever theyre called). Does anyone have one that I can borrow. I can pick it up, and offer a deposit + your choice of 6-pack. If you have one, please call me at (443) 831 5394. Thanks!

Those are easily available. Get a set of "triple square" bits at an auto parts store. You'll need a 12mm, IIRC. They are also available as 1/2" sockets.

Removing the plate with the engine in or out of the car is a bit of a wash. Better access out but the torque you'll need will tend to knock the engine stand over. In the car it's hard to do because of the bell housing and "fingers" that support the throw-out bearing guide tube. I've done both and prefer struggling while not underneath the car, on my back and with unknown bits falling into my eyes.

Make sure you have a starter bracket on the new car before you put the flywheel on it.
