Gotta check underneath. And, trans in neutral, rotate one rear wheel forward and report back which direction the other side wheel spun on its own. Hardware gets switched out.
My 84 had the indication on the sticker, but had been retrofitted with an 83 trans without LSD. The code on the bottom of the trans would have demonstrated that, but I hoped they had at least retained the LSD. Rotating the wheels confirmed that the 83 trans did not also get installed with the 84 LSD.
A lot can happen during the 20-30 year past history of most of these cars.
Anyway, carry on, get the parts in the hands of people that can use them at a reasonable price, sorry for the diversion.

wills928,
Welcome to the forum! i don't think an '85 alternator will fit on an '84. I have an '83 and a '84. The '85 alt is bigger. Best to go with the correct one for '83-'84 with the 4.7L engine. You can:
1. Buy a used one from one of the various suppliers
2. Buy a rebuild either Bosch or Paris Rhone
3. Have yours rebuilt locally at an alternator Shop.
4. Convert to the Delco Remy alternator used in the 1988 Chevy Camaro 6 cylinder.
When mine went in my '84, I converted to the Delco alt. Very easy conversion and a infinitely more advanced, better performing and more reliable alternator than what came in the car brand new, in my opinion. Do a search in the 928 Forum for TooFast928's original post on the Delco alt conversion. He was the first to come up with the idea.
Good luck with the car!
Joe B.
P.S. I'm local to you if you ever want to meet up.

Do you still have the transmission? You mention that it may have been damaged in the accident...is there any visible damage to the case? Any damage visible around the half shaft connections? How did it shift prior to crash? Any further info on the tranny would help. Thanks,

A small but important request. On the HVAC control motor located under the dash near the driver's right knee is the HVAC control motor. I have the motor but need the arm that bolts to it and the rod that connects and runs vertically up to control one of the heater flaps. Help?

HI curious about the following
Weather stripping for the doors, rear hatch and sun roof (if in good condition as I need temporary replacements until I can get things ready for repaint).
Windshield trim (the 3 pieces that go around the windshield including the joining sleeves.
Hatch release switch (the on on the driver side near the brake release) (I need both actually)
Please give prices shipped to 20002
thanks
