Default 'Anyone running General Exclaim UHP?

While considering what tires to buy for my 928 S4 I ran this comparison of various tires: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/CompareTires.jsp;
I note that the characteristics which I hold dear; ride comfort and noise comfort of the lowest priced tire - General Exclaim UHP is comparable to the higher priced brands. Is anyone running these tires? Can this comparison be trusted in the real world of "where the rubber meets the road?"

There advertising used to be...

Sooner or later you'll own Generals.

I put those on my 3 Series BMW and they were good tires.

Interesting, did not know General was still around.

BTW, I thought that "General Exclaim UHP" was some sort of Microsoft Error....

Great tire - have them on my 83. Very quite and excellent ride. After 1,500 miles, no complaints. They are highly rated on Tirerack.

I too have been interested in the Exclaim UHP, and have read the various comments/reviews on the Tire Rack site. It seems that several reveiws indicated a "soft", inconsistant feel; especially with higher-speed cornering or manuevering. They said that they felt like they couldn't read the breakaway or something like that.

I'm just gonna be using my 928 for cruising so I guess any negatives (to me) are outweighed by the smoother, quieter ride, and of course, the attractive price and good size availability. To those that posted positively above: are there any real experiences on your part that should change any minds as to what I said? Inquiring minds want to know!

I put these on my 968 about 10k miles ago, great grip, very quiet, nice for a dd tire
however..... yep there is one
the sidewalls are SOFT as all get out, the car rolls noticeably in turns, I would never run them on a 928 thru the twisties or at high speeds where a turn may be necessary

I'm on my second set. As Rixter said: quiet, good ride, good wear, excellent in the wet and not so bad in a bit of snow. BUT definitely soft sidewalls, not what you want in a performance tire, but mine is a DD and I drive like a little old lady (except maybe in goat tracks), so for me they are ok.

I did notice that these tires were very very squirmy if over inflated on the BMW. The kid at the tire shop that put them on aired them up to 40. Bled them back down the BMW recommended pressures and they felt great. They felt way under inflated when they were actually over inflated.

I am considering these as well in the spring for my 18" wheels. Would the sidewall still feel overly soft on a 40 or 35 series tire? I am running PS2's (used) right now and they are good but mucho $$ to buy new.

Default UHP GENERAL

I had these on when they first came out to the market for my Jetta. The tires are great at straight away, but when i cornered at high speed the car felt like it was on jelly donut. I have to agree with other members they are good only for cruising and not for going fast in corner. I have to say they were cheap too and made by continental-German tire co.

I personally love these tires.

I had no complains with them, and while most say the sidewall is pretty soft I didnt really have a problem with that. I run between 36-32 PSI all around on my car.

After a particularly squirmy high speed turn in is when I checked my tire pressures. I thought they would be low, but they were too high. After bleeding some air off to the correct 34 psi they handled high speed turns as well as any other tire.
