Default What is this wire plug

This plug almost caused a fire today so it needs to be removed asap.
I think it might be the defrost, since that was removed when the dash was redone. The one wire is leading up into the gauge cluster area. Also if anyone knows what fuse I could possibly pull to kill the power to it I would be very grateful.
Thanks again as usual

ps. having a track project which youve dumped all your money into almost go up in flames is a definite wake up call to check your wires and keep a fire extinguisher handy at all times even though I didnt need it.

Not a connector the factory would use...

Steve, thanks for that link. Now to figure out what the hell the connector went to

Stratford, Im fairly certain this is a factory connector. The wires were wrapped in the original godawful sticky German wire tape

It's a 'euro' style connector but unsure if it was used in OB's. Try radio fuse in case it was a PO doing some alarm or stereo work?

This is not a stock connector - its just a screw in block that someone has used aftermarket. Unclear if its an add-on or repair but getting rid of it would be a good idea...

Hard to tell from the photo - one wire appears to be Red/white - is the other one red/white or red/yellow?
Are there multiple plugs on the wires?
Where did the other wire appear to go?

The PO removed the stereo and there was no alarm as far as I am aware

There was 1 main plug which splits into 2 smaller plugs which go into 2 red wires w/black stripes

I capped the one wire for the time being but the other one is melted through. It appears to go into the main pod somewhere.

Again - it is not stock - you will need to jump into the pod and see where it goes - there is no other way...

The wire ended up going to the ignition switch. Oddly enough all it did was power the back lights to the gauges.

on a side note: I finally got to take the motor past 3k today and it lights up the rears till 4th gear
