Default Nothing is ever easy. (Stripped 02sensor and bung)

Simple job...lift car..drop exhaust..xpipe...install cats...SMOG....DONE...

a couple hours tops.....done it numerous times over the years,

until you try to remove your 02 sesnor this time from the Xpipe.

How in gaaawds name does a thread get cross threaded on the way out?!?!!??

my o2 sensor is destroyed..(at least it wasnt the Wideband for my LM1).and now the bung in my Xpipe doesnt look the best either.

Anyone have any luck finding a M18X1.5 tap at any "local" stores? I can chase the threads in the bung and it should be OK. Last thing i want to do is cut out and reweld a new one on my pretty ceramic coated Xpipe

I really dont want to order one online and have to wait until next week now.

If you can clean up the threads on th e old O2 sensor you could then file some longitudinal grooves in the threads using a triangular file (keep the trailing edge of the groove radial ) use that as thread chaser.

Has worked for me in similar situations.

Tony...........if you cant find a thread chaser of the correct type buy a cheap generic O2 sensor and cut (file) groves in the threads every 90 degrees and create your own chaser.

I'm pretty sure the O2 and a standard size spark plug are the same size a thread pitch. You can use that to make thread chaser. OR.... find the local Harbor Freight and they should have an O2 thread chaser. Carbon build up at the end of the O2 threads is probably what caused your problem. I hope this helps....Good luck.

Widebands are almost getting cheaper than narrow band sensors these days...

I did the same thing on mine 2 weeks ago. I just retapped the theads on the bung. The M18x1.5 tap should be available, keep looking. I borrowed one from a friend but I saw one at the shelf at Carquest as well. As far as the galled theads on the 02 sensor they weren't damaged to much and went on smooth once the bung threads were clean.

Mmerlin the Amazon.com 02 sensor I bought for $67 are now $72 so still a good deal...

Yes, the threads are standard spark plug thread. A simple plug chaser is the solution. I have done it many times.

Tony,

I've got an used O2 sensor you can use. I might even have a tap for it.

Will be home around 5pm today, let me know.

Better yet, I still have the cats from the S4 sitting in the garage. You can use them to smog if you'd like.
