Default S4 Rotors and pads

did the upgrade on my 83 euro and it is getting close to the time for replacememt. i do some "spirited" driving and want to know what pads and rotors people are using, i would prefer low dust pads but not hard on the rotors. are there any good quality rotors that dont break the bank.

thanks for your input

I would stick with stock Porsche rotors. The holed Zimmerman's look cool, but they really trap the brake dust and will start to squeal if you don't blow them out.
For pads I like the Textars. Low dust, no noise, great pedal feel, last a long time, not big dollars, and will work on the track.

PBR ceramic pads are very good brakes but with my worn rotors and dirty (dusty) calipers they squeal bad.

Have cast in hole Zimmermans on the front (and rear) and new PBR pads, cleaned calipers and the appropiate file dressing.

I'll have to report back in 2-3mths if the changes were good...........friggin' weather

I'm pretty happy with Mintex pads, fairly spirited non-track use and they seem to be great. Then again, I am comparing to the recently-replaced OB brakes with Textars.

The rotors, 993 front & drilled S4 rear were around $110-$115 per corner IIRC.

I would avoid mintex! On my S4 one stop from 160 and the pads overheat.

I run PBRs and love them. Both on stock and holed zimmermans.

Colin, I don't think I could reach 160 without dropping the car out of an airplane. Not sure about Andy's but maybe he could duplicate that scenario if his is an S. I have hauled it down from 125 with no issues, other than melting the plating a bit on the rotors. If you have stock rotors maybe you were experiencing gas buildup, where I would not on drilled rotors.

It also depends on which Mintex pad. The street pads would be destroyed in a single track day. I had good performance out of the "C" compound ( I think its called something different now) on both the track and the street.

I think the Textars modulate a little better, but no complaints with the Mintex - C's. Then again, never hauled down from 160 either. A few times at 145, and they held okay.

mintex are fine, but they need to be bedded properly, as does any race or performance pad. texars are just stockish stuff, soft and cuddly and they are only really for street applications. (dont plan on using them on the track, unless you want a lot of fade and boil of fluid. )

I raced on the mintex, becasue they were way cheaper than pagid oranges, and they were fine for a few races and DE days on the old Back 79 that was running 2:10s at Thunderhill. by the way, that was on the little hockey puck brakes too! (stock '79 stuff) . The braking issues with some fade in a full race condition, was that it was a little scary, due to the small brakes, not the brand of mintex. For street or DE, they are ok. for serious racing, pagid oranges at a minimum is what you will want.
