Default Wheel Dilemma

I'm on the hunt for new shoes for my '89 S4 ROW car. It currently has Boxster rims on it and I am looking for something a little more authenthic. I realize there are lots of opinions when it comes to wheels, and lots of different workable options. I have trolled the site here and found hoards of information and think I have narrowed it down to these choices:

1. Club Sport wheels
2. Design 90 wheels
3. Cup I wheels

With the '89 MY I would love the Club Sport's, but I also know how rare the 8" 60mm offset rims are. Both the CS & Design 90 wheels are 16" and tire options are dwindling fast for these sizes. I really like look of the Cup I's on our cars, and 17" tire selection is vast.

My car is equipped with the RDK system (although currently disabled) so Design 90's and Cup I's with the sensors would be a nice bonus too.

So....I am looking for experienced advice with any or all three of these wheel designs. Preferences, problems, etc. Any leads on any of these wheels would be appreciated too!

Thanks!

Glenn

I'm eyeballing these:

The sizes and offsets work well.

16" tire choices are going away, too.

Glenn - Have you considered Cup II's, which were standard on the 94-95 GTS and visually similar to the Cup I wheel? I have a pair of 17x8 ET70's for sale that would be an excellent fit for the front of your car. They could easily be matched with a pair of 17x9 ET55 on the rear.

Here's the link to my for sale post, and the price is negotiable:

I was going to suggest the same thing as Jarrod... If you already have the RDK system off line then look at some other things. I am not sure the 17" Cup I would work w/ your RDK anyway. Not sure that the sensors are close enough to the rim or that they line up properly... Remember the Cup I's (in particular the rears) were designed to line up for the GTS and they have the big wheel spacer and correspondingly wider fenders. Might not be a problem at all, but just saying don't get the Cup I's and assume they are going to work w/ your RDK system.

Cup II are always less expensive and look damn near as good. I like the D90's personally and there are still enough good 16" tire choices out there for the time being...

Jarrod, I had looked at the Cup II's...but somehow they just don't do it for me...maybe I just have not seen enough of them on our cars to get a good read on them. BTW your Design 90's look great on your GT! The more D90's I see the more I like them!

Glenn - No problem, everyone has their own personal preference. I'm in the process of going to the Cup II myself. I always retain my original parts, otherwise I'd be happy to sell my D90's. They're great looking wheels. Good luck with your search.
