Has anyone gotten a rear Mounted turbo to work?

No nothing is smog legal unless its been approved by the CARB (california air resources board), which last i heard requires a $50,00-$100,000 bribe... i mean certification fee.
I was actually thinking about this the other day that it would be nice to get i dont know maybe a registration fee credit if your car not only passes but has some sort of percentage lower emissions. I know with tuning often times you make more power, but if you run the car at the right mixture and with some newer technology that you could likely run cleaner too. This modification is usually frowned upon by the government but what if you tuned your car to run cleaner, and it just so happened to make more power?

Tom,
I think Mark has a set up for the auto cars now, but I am not positive about that. I know he borrowed my '88 auto to mock stuff up on several different occasions.
Ryan, I agree with you that Mark's system is a REAR Turbo set up, but technically if you are talking about where the turbo is located it is mid mounted since it is between the front and rear axles. In his case it would be Mid/rear vs. mid/front for many of the V8 twin turbo systems which locate the T's just behind the front wheels... now that the water is REALLY MUDDY, I am outta here! LOL!

That would be interesting to see. If he mounts it in the same vicinity as he does the manual version...with the big ole torque converter there...there isn't any room...

Just as a point of reference for the original poster...I ran the system for about 3 years and put about 8000 miles on it. Took it off and this system is now on another car (Chucks) since then and still going strong.
Jt's setup has been on his car ever since we finished his engine (probably 3 years ago or so) and has been totally hammered on during sharktuning and P-9s favorite activity of going to the local open run drag's.
All these were daily or pseudo-daily drivers and while on my car it behaved as stock car in day to day driving and when under boost..it was "hold on tight" and a big smile . The only drawback was that it was far from stealth. You could hear me coming onto boost very easily. Also there was virtually no lag even with the turbo at the rear. Totally driveable and I would be at full boost around 3k rpm... Felt like the GT cams coming on after the flap...times 4 D:

I believe kuhn is the only one with a cali-legal turbo system for the 928. All the rear guys are DIY types (though I could be mistaken, correct me if I am wrong as this is relevant to my interests, eventually anyway)

Doubtful any system could pass the visual test in Cali...unless you got lucky. P-9 guys are set up to make the kits (they have bunches o parts sitting around the shop) but they haven't really done much lately (economy etc..).. Believe it or not, the rear turbo setups are pretty simple and can be handled by most folks. With the advent of the sharktuner (thanks again John Speake), the fueling/ign is a no brainer..

Callaway made a system years ago and got it through EPA testing, so it might be possible make some claim of your system being the same as that smog legal system.
Catch with the rear turbo, yes the exhaust is behind the cats, usually a have fun zone, but the boost side is on the intake, which they are technically fussy about even for so called "cold air systems".

Didn`t Mark post recently he wasn`t doing Turbos anymore? I looked at his setup at OCIC last summer and really liked it. The air intake spooked me some. The location seemed like there could be some water issues. Anyway Does anyone have a contact for Mark. I would like to talk to him some more on this setup.
