Funny this topic crossed my mind just the other day...right about the time I realized that one of my other dream cars as a kid (Ferrari Testarossa) was within financial reach. I've never driven one so I can't say for sure if it will meet my expectations of a fun to drive car...but the looks and sound definitely do and it would be a tough decision.....

If my old lady asked me that question, I would tell her yes... I will update and get a newer model, starting with her, but the "Queen" stays by my side!!!!!

Well, I do plan on buying a 996TT sometime next year, and I may sell my '85 if I can find a GTS in great shape...however, I will always have some breed of 928 in the stable.

I got a low mile'r and I plan on keeping it. I love driving this car. I don't think I will ever be able to decide if I like this or the early 911 better. They are both amazing for what they can do.

No way I'll ever be without a 928. I driven a handful of exotics, and nothing does it like the 928. They may be faster, or lower, or this or that, but 928 simply does it all, every day.

Well, I just hope I can keep the Club-Sport when my divorce will be finished.

Right now, I can't drive the car and it really upsets me.

If I can't keep it, I will certainly try to find another nice 928.

I have wanted a 928 from 1989 to 1999, own the CS from 1999 and hope to always have one.
My kids love it by the way

I admit, I traded up to a "newer model"........... But I still have the shark.........

It has aged pretty well!, way better than the first one. And the shark still looks great too!

A little hint for the lurkers out there. My 85 was one of the first 32 valve cars in the country, and was the first 928 tweaked by Holbert Porsche Audi, for a personal friend of Al.

If I were ever to sell it, I would suggest that some one of you should make an effort to buy it.

Other than that, I have had four 928s in all. Sometimes you just have to know when to get off the bus. If the OP was having issues with his shark, or it was a cronic money pit, I could see the wife having a gripe. However, I sold my perfect, very special 911 a few years ago at my wife's urging. And urging. It was special to me, and I have never really gotten over it.

All you need to decide is if the car is special to you or not, and whether or not you can afford it. If the car is special to you, and you can afford it, tell your wife. Ask her why she would want you to sell something that you enjoy.

Assuming of course that you aren't complaining about the car, the maintenance, the expense, etc., etc... Because if you are bitchin, and the car means something to you, you are sending out contradictory signals.

OTOH, if your wife is just nagging her own private agenda, grab back your *****, and put them on the 928 keychain, where they will be safe. Your car, your *****, your choice.

I am trying to be polite here, but you get the point. This is your wife, not your mommy. Keep it that way.

This is true but there is another side to it.. What if you aspire to own other cars but financials and time don't allow for a additional cars in the stable? My comment above about the Ferrari for example, I could wait 5 years and buy one and keep the 928 but the reality is that I barely have time for one car let alone two. Do I wait or sell?

I'm not selling by the way, just posing a hypothetical which I know many have considered.

I'd sell mine and walk away from 928s forever....

...if I were able to replace it with another supercar that I can work on and enjoy driving at the same time. One that I can upgrade and maintain for less money every month than a car payment on a new Ford Whateversedan. One that can be had for the price of a 10 year old Toyota but that looks and feels and drives like nothing else you will see in a month of looking at other cars on the road or in parking lots. I'll give up my 928 and walk away when there's no more Rennlist or Reutterwerk to help me feed my addiction and discuss issues I've never seen before with guys on other continents who've seen and fixed that same problem a dozen times.

I don't see it happening though.

Don't, you'll be a dead man if you do. The TR is an amazing machine and the sound is just intoxicating, and you'll rush right out and buy one. Then you'll spend several multiples of your 928 on deferred maintenance and service cost. They are great, reliable cars but the regular maintenance is eye-watering. 928s are Chevys by comparison. I'd still love to own one....

Personally my plan was to buy the 928 as a toy I really liked because it just made more sense to drive the money than let it sit. Then sell it when the time came to upgrade. That ain't happenin' now, the 928 is staying and will continue to evolve. My wife actually said "you're not selling the 928, I like that car!" Just meant I had to work a little harder and now I'm on the prowl for the right Ferrari to park next to it.

Yeah no doubt that the maintenance costs will be higher but considering the mileage I'm able to put on each year, the cost will spread out a bit. I also would limit my purchase to a car with recent maintenance to eliminate that huge wallet emptying situation...same as a shark really.

My wife has also said I can't sell the 928. Oddly enough my parents have also taken a liking to it and they also object to it.

I'm hoping one of my kids really takes a liking to cars so I can figure out a way to spend more time enjoying the hobby and include the family. That will allow for a second car.

How about it, do you see yourself still driving a 928 (current or future) two years from now? Three years, five years, etc.
I'm sure I will own a 928 or two in 3+ years, weather or not they will be in any condition to be driven is the big question

As for newer cars, I've driven a lot of the newest "crop" and unless I'm willing to take on a huge car payment, nothing is going to replace my 928's.

Your average Joe is under a blind, albeit ignorant assumption people like us drive 928's because we cannot afford anything "better".
