strange noise at speed over 80 mph 79 OB
I tried a search, but kinda hard to narrow down "strange noise".
I have only had my OB for 3 months and mostly just drive it around town and windy roads, etc. Not too much freeway driving. However just took her out on an extended drive last night. We're going into Fall here in the North East and the crisp cool air had my OB running extra strong. So I took her on an extended fun ride last night concluding with a nice high speed burst on the interstate
Over 80mph I start to hear a weird noise. Like a flapping seatbelt in the wind nose coming from around that area. Just behind my head to the left, maybe down low in the wheel well, door edge or quater pannel behind me. It's a flappy noise that comes and goes but only at high speed and non existant at low speed. Also, I can only hear it with the windows are closed.
Wondering if it's the inner fender liner -- as it felt sort of loose - meaning I could jiggle it, but it's not hanging or anything --when I felt up in the wheel well last night. It was too dark last night to get a good look at it. Will take a look again today when I get home. Just wondering if it can be anything else. All the window seals and weatherstripping have all been replaced and there are no rips, cuts, tears, cracks, gaps.
Only other thing I can think of is that the PO cut in some speakers into the door panels. I've heard that many times the plastic film is not replaced and maybe that is a flappy noise I'm getting at higher speed.
Any other ideas for me to check?
Is it possible to reconstruct that plastic sheet behind the panel - in case that's the noise?

from your info i would check the block off plates in each fender they should all have about 3 or more screws holding them in, also there is usually a foam insert around the edges this helps seal off the fenders.
To fix the vapr barrier on the doors i use a clear shower curtain purchased from the dollar store a S/Curtain will do about 4 doors, and you can either use cleat packing tape, use the 3M tape it has the best adhesive, or use the brush on contact cement this also works well , dont forget to add the drip pieces first then cover the whole door and also lube up the locks and window rail/roller

drip pieces are smaller plastic sheets that are tacked to the tops of the openings in the door, and drape down about 2 inches inside the door openings .
What this does is let any water that comes in from the outside drip to the bottom of the door instead of contacting the vapor barrier and then wetting the bottom of the door panel .
If your vapor barrier is original it will have these drip sheets connected to the vapor barrier

Ended up figuring it out. There was a hairline crack in my driver door seal. Believe it or not it was enough to make a wind noise. I covered it with a bit of electrical tape and noise is gone. Really surprised, we're talking a 1mm gap making all that noise.

I also just had this happen to me a few weeks ago. I had a tiny crack in the upper window seal that was making all kinds of annoying noises. The tape was a good idea but in case it doesn't hold, buy a small tube of black silicone and fill the crack. It's flexible like the seal and is not visible when it dries.
