Default Fuel coming from transmission vacuum line.

I was finalizing connections on my transmission this evening. The car hasn't run in over a month. I replaced the hose connection between the hard line and vacuum tube at the front of the torque tube. When I went to re-route the vacuum soft line at the transmission a lot of fuel ran out onto my shirt (yummy). Did the fuel just find it's way from the bottom of the throttle body, or do I have another problem?

Thanks in advance...

Mike

Inspect the dampers and FPR for fuel out of the upper nipple. This is the only possible place for it to come from. And this is the first time I would have seen this happening

+1
and check the other lines off regulator and dampers would bet there is some in them too.

Rog (928srus) had a post about this once I believe...Roger?

when you replaced the fuel lines could the fuel have run into the T fitting then into the vacuum line for the trans??

I had a brand new outta the box FPR that fractured a diaphram and blew all the vacum lines out with fuel pressure including the 6 way "T"
its gotta be a leaking damper or FPR

Mike--

Just a quick reminder that a quick pull with the Miti-Vac will find a FPR or damper diaphragm leak without all the fire danger.

My front damper when bad, and leaked fuel all the way to the splitter. So that could be your issue.

So with that I replaced both dampers.

928 intl lists the dampers for the 80-86 models and the 87-92 models. I have the parts from my 86.5 sitting here collecting dust for the time being. Will the 86.5 dampers and FPR swap with my 89?

Fuel pressures are different. Don't know if that makes a difference on the dampers. Did you identify a leaking part with the mitivac?

I got home. grabbed my vacuum pump, and noticed it was BROKEN. Ah the joys of parenthood. So I started poking around. First check, front fuel damper... Bingo. Fuel at the vacuum line. I'll get a new vac tomorrow and double check the damper, but I am halfway assuming it has to be the culprit. I guess it could still possibly be the other damper or FPR letting fuel into the system and through capillary action or residual vacuum fuel could conceivably travel all the way to the front damper.... We'll see tomorrow.

Another interesting question... Could fuel getting into the transmission kickdown diaphragm damage or destroy it???? I would think that the vapors from the vacuum system could always contain some unburned fuel, but I thought I'd throw it out to the forum to see what you all think...

I think in this case we can safely add another fire possibility to the 928. If it hasn't already been conceived...

1. blue line of death breaks. FIRE!
2. failure to complete standard fuel line replacement. FIRE!
3. 4 cylinder mode, mass fuel intrudes cats. FIRE!
4. Leaky injector seal. FIRE!
5. Fuel pressure regulator or fuel damper diaphragm rupture filling transmission kickdown vacuum line with fuel. Over time, fuel can leak from soft line attachment right over cats. FIRE!

Ok. Got my new MityVac today. Hooked it up to the front fuel damper and easily pumped fuel into the resevoir.... I'll pick one up from 928 Intl. tomorrow. Thanks for the pointers! Rennlist #1!

it would be wise to replace the dampers and the FPR at the same time

I know... Thanks for the advice. But times are a little tough right now. Four children and a slow economy definitly eat away at the shark fund. The kids kept me out of 928s for 6 years... I'm planning a full intake R&R this winter, but until then, I gotta go with what I can. I'll just have to "pre-flight" the shark before each "flight"...
