OB Transmission: How do you press out the 1/2/3 dogteeth?
Gents,
What's the best way to remove the dogteeth and replace for 1st-third?
I'm in the middle of rebuilding now!
I appreciate the help!

Typical that the owners manual only mentions replacing the syncro rings and nothing about the dogteeth, can't you cut of the old teeth and use a press to put on the new ones?

Chris, I think that's my mechanic's strategy. I'm going to find out tomorrow. So far that seems to be the only major hang up.
I'll report later on this one since this is one of those few topics I couldn't find an answer through the search function either.

You should have left a digital camera with your mechanic, this is one of the poorest documented areas of 928 repair.

Chris is correct IIRC. I did not do this, but I may have made a mistake.

Well good luck, the only reason I mention it is that you can do that with the 901 gearbox if you are too cheap to pay for the tool to remove ($90), I see no mention of a tool for the 928 anywhere and I do not see a lip on the dogteeth where it, or something similar would engage.

You can't press them out, since there is no way to get underneath it and there is no lip on the top side.
Unfortunately, my mechanic is also the owner of his own shop so time is precious. I'm hoping just to get a good explanation....

Hi.
The only way to remove those dogs from the larger gears is to machine them . I've used a milling machine with a carbide cutter and make a cut to break the ring.
Good luck

I also learned that the original needle bearings on the main shaft were a split design, however, the revised part# for the needle bearing is a solid design.
